PAAU Launches Solar-Powered Campus Tricycle Shuttle Service to Boost Transportation, Security
Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has officially launched a Solar-Powered Campus Tricycle Shuttle Service aimed at providing affordable, safe, and environmentally friendly transportation while strengthening security across the institution.
The initiative, flagged off on Tuesday at the University Senate Building, marks another milestone in the university’s ongoing transformation drive under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman.

The inauguration was performed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Muhammed Suleiman Audu, on behalf of the University Management. The event was attended by principal officers, staff, students, and members of the Tricycle Operators Association of Nigeria (TOAN).
Speaking during the ceremony, Prof. Usman described the project as a major step towards improving the welfare of staff and students through accessible, affordable, and eco-friendly transportation.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the Pro-Chancellor for personally officiating the inauguration, describing the occasion as historic for the institution.
According to him, the solar-powered tricycles will offer a cheaper alternative for movement within the campus while complementing the services of motorcycle operators. He explained that the initiative is part of broader measures introduced by the university to enhance campus security, improve mobility, and create a more conducive learning environment.
Prof. Usman also commended the facilitator of the project, Hon. Isah Emmanuel Ojodunwene, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Kogi State, for supporting the university’s vision of improving transportation infrastructure.
He urged operators of the shuttle service to maintain professionalism, ensure the tricycles remain in excellent condition, treat students with respect, and work closely with university authorities to deliver efficient and reliable services.
The Vice-Chancellor further encouraged members of the association to remain united and continue contributing positively to peace, order, and development within the university community.
He expressed gratitude to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his unwavering support for the institution, while also acknowledging the contributions of the immediate past governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, CON, for his continued encouragement and confidence in the university’s leadership.
Prof. Usman reaffirmed the management’s commitment to implementing policies and programmes that promote academic excellence, improved security, quality service delivery, and infrastructural development.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Tricycle Operators Association of Nigeria (TOAN), Kogi State Chapter, Comrade Ahmed Sadiq Achemaje, applauded the Vice-Chancellor for introducing what he described as the first organised campus tricycle shuttle service since the establishment of Prince Abubakar Audu University.
Achemaje, an alumnus of the institution, pledged that all operators would strictly comply with the university’s regulations and remain committed to providing safe, responsible, and student-friendly transportation services.

He also praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for appointing Prof. Usman as Vice-Chancellor, noting that since assuming office on February 11, 2026, the Vice-Chancellor has continued to reposition the university through innovative and people-oriented leadership.
According to him, all tricycles operating under the scheme will be painted in the official colours of Prince Abubakar Audu University to distinguish them from commercial tricycles and preserve the identity of the campus shuttle service.
In his remarks, Pro-Chancellor Prof. Muhammed Suleiman Audu commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and former Governor Yahaya Bello for their continued support and commitment to the development of the university.
He described Prof. Usman as a visionary leader whose initiatives have continued to improve academic standards, infrastructure, security, and the welfare of staff and students.
Prof. Audu also praised Comrade Achemaje for mobilising members of TOAN to contribute meaningfully to the growth of their alma mater.
Declaring the Solar-Powered Campus Tricycle Shuttle Service officially inaugurated, the Pro-Chancellor expressed confidence that the initiative would significantly improve transportation, strengthen campus security, and further reinforce the university’s commitment to providing a world-class environment for teaching, learning, and research.
