Danyaro promises to champion policies promoting women’s rights and participation

The Abuja-based CLEEN Project has called for stronger legislative action to promote women’s rights, welfare and participation in governance in Nasarawa State.
The advocacy organisation made the call during a visit to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, where its delegation met with the member representing Nasarawa Central Constituency, Dr. Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim.
The delegation was led by its Project Coordinator, Mr. Bernard Obokay, who said the organisation was engaging stakeholders as part of efforts to ensure that women receive fair treatment at both societal and governmental levels.
Obokay said the organisation was particularly interested in legislation and policies that would improve the conditions of women and increase their participation in political and governance processes.
He appealed to the legislature to support provisions that would positively impact women across Nasarawa State.
He further called for the domestication of relevant national policies designed to protect women and improve their quality of life.
The coordinator referenced the domestication of the Child Rights Act in Nasarawa State, describing it as an example of legislative action that could provide greater protection for vulnerable groups.
In her response, Danyaro, Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Services, welcomed the initiative and assured the delegation of her support.
She said she would do everything within her legislative capacity to ensure that the objectives of the advocacy engagement receive appropriate attention.
The lawmaker stressed that NGOs play a significant role in identifying social challenges and supporting government efforts to address them.
Danyaro therefore pledged to enhance collaboration with civil society organisations working to advance the interests of women.
The engagement was attended by officials of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Services, who accompanied the CLEEN Project team to the Assembly.
