Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Benue State, Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, has called on his supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding following reports of the burning of campaign materials belonging to his movement.
Aondoakaa, in a statement titled “Let Peace Be Our Response to Provocation,” said he had received reports and seen images of the alleged destruction of campaign materials, describing the development as unfortunate.
He urged supporters across the 23 local government areas of Benue State not to retaliate or engage in acts that could escalate tensions during the political campaign.

“However, I wish to state clearly and unequivocally that no act of provocation, no matter how offensive, should cause us to abandon the principles upon which our campaign is founded,” Aondoakaa said.
According to him, his movement, BENUE FIRST, is founded on peace, security, justice, tolerance and the rule of law.
He said the movement was presenting itself to the people of Benue as an alternative based on ideas, solutions and service, rather than intimidation or violence.
Aondoakaa Warns Supporters Against Retaliation
The PDP candidate specifically appealed to his supporters not to destroy campaign materials belonging to other political parties or engage in violence.
“I therefore call on all my supporters across the 23 local government areas of our dear state to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding. Do not retaliate. Do not destroy anyone’s campaign materials. Do not engage in violence,” he said.
Aondoakaa argued that retaliatory actions could undermine the principles associated with the movement and distract supporters from its political message.
He also urged his supporters to respect their political opponents, the law and the democratic process.
‘Campaign Materials Can Be Destroyed, Aspirations Cannot’
The PDP candidate said the strength of the BENUE FIRST movement did not depend on posters, banners, billboards or other campaign materials.
According to him, the movement’s strength lies in what he described as the convictions and aspirations of its supporters and their vision for a safer and more prosperous Benue State.
“Campaign materials can be destroyed, but the aspirations of the people cannot be burned. The desire for peace cannot be set ablaze. The demand for good governance cannot be intimidated into silence,” he said.
Aondoakaa maintained that his supporters should remain focused on the objectives of the movement rather than allowing alleged acts of provocation to divert their attention.
He said the movement should demonstrate a different approach to political engagement by promoting peaceful participation and respect for democratic institutions.
Calls for Peaceful Campaign
The governorship candidate said he remained committed to what he described as justice, fairness and peaceful coexistence.
He said Benue State deserved political engagement that would promote unity and offer solutions to the concerns of residents.
Aondoakaa further appealed to supporters to resist any temptation to retaliate, urging them to remain disciplined and focused throughout the campaign.

“Let our conduct speak louder than their actions. Let our commitment to peace be our answer to intolerance. Let our faith in democracy be stronger than any attempt to undermine it,” he said.
He added that the conduct of political actors during moments of tension would be remembered beyond the immediate political contest.
Aondoakaa concluded by urging his supporters to choose peace, justice and what he described as a better Benue.
He also prayed for God’s guidance and blessings for Benue State.
