President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged Dr Betta Edu, Director of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, and other members of the party’s Women’s Directorate to intensify grassroots engagement and mobilise women nationwide ahead of the 2027 general election.
Tinubu gave the directive on Wednesday afternoon during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The President acknowledged the contributions of Nigerian women to the country’s political development, expressing confidence in their capacity to play a decisive role in determining the outcome of the forthcoming election.

He commended APC women for their commitment to the party and their contributions to its electoral successes, noting that their organisational abilities, numerical strength and influence within families and communities make them indispensable to the party’s political ambitions.
“Women are the greatest mobilisers,” the President said.
Tinubu urged members of the campaign council, particularly the Women Mobilisation Directorate led by Edu, to translate their support for the party into a coordinated nationwide campaign capable of delivering electoral victory for the APC.
The directive places women’s mobilisation at the centre of the party’s strategy for seeking another mandate for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, with emphasis on grassroots outreach, ward-level organisation and direct engagement with communities across the federation.
APC Targets 40 Million Women’s Votes
The Women Mobilisation Directorate has set an ambitious target of securing 40 million women’s votes for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket through a mobilisation framework covering 176,846 communities, as well as structures across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The strategy seeks to extend campaign activities beyond major rallies by strengthening household engagement, community outreach, ward structures and polling-unit mobilisation.
For Edu and her team, the task includes consolidating support among women in markets, rural communities, professional associations, cooperatives, faith-based organisations and other social networks.
The directorate is also expected to communicate the administration’s policies and programmes to prospective voters while engaging them on issues affecting their daily lives.
Remi Tinubu’s Women Empowerment Initiatives
The mobilisation drive is expected to build on the activities of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, whose engagements with women and support for empowerment initiatives have featured prominently in preparations for the election.
At the October 5 pre-inaugural Women’s Summit and Empowerment Programme in Abuja, the First Lady brought together women stakeholders from across the country. The programme also featured the distribution of livelihood-support items, including motorbikes and farm trucks, to beneficiaries.
The event highlighted efforts to connect political mobilisation with women’s economic participation and empowerment.
Edu has consistently expressed confidence in the capacity of APC women to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, calling for unity, discipline and sustained grassroots engagement.
She has maintained that women must operate as a coordinated political network rather than rely solely on high-profile campaign events.
Grassroots Mobilisation Key to 2027
The inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council marks a significant step in the APC’s preparations for the next general election, bringing its political structures and mobilisation machinery into sharper focus.
With renewed emphasis on women’s electoral contributions, Edu and other campaign officials face the task of converting political enthusiasm into measurable grassroots participation.
For the APC, the 2027 contest will require sustained voter engagement, effective communication of government policies and an organisational structure capable of reaching communities across the country.
Tinubu’s message is clear: women must not merely participate in the campaign but must be organised and strategically positioned to help the party achieve its electoral objectives.
