Tawari Attack: Joint Security Operation Commences, As Forces Secure Bases In The Troubled Area

Determined to fish out perpetrators of the heinous killings in Tawari and ensure maximum security of lives and property, Kogi state government and the security agencies have set up a joint operation on Wednesday for surveillance and mapped out areas of concentration where troops will be camped.

The joint operation has the Police, Army, Navy, NSCDC, the DSS and other security outfits including the local vigilantes have already arrived Tawari communities, charged with the orders to identify and secure the flashpoints.

To ensure the swift commencement of the operation to fish out perpetrators of the attack as well as flush out criminals from the area, the State Security Adviser, in company of the security Chiefs in the state also arrived Tawari on Wednesday.

Receiving the Security Chiefs in Tawari, the Administrator of Kogi LGA, Barr. Muhammed Tanko Musa, commended them for their prompt response and express his Administration’s cooperation and commitment to protection of lives and properties.

He said the commitment of the security personnel since the attack has given the people hope and urge them to use their experiences to urgently smoke out the culprits and bring them to face the full wrath of the law.

In his remark, the Aguma of Tawari, Alhaji Idris Yusuf Alhassan, lauded the Administrator’s efforts in ensuring security of lives and property, adding that his commitment has yielded positive results and urged him not to relent.

The Security Chiefs also toured round the communities and areas considered to be flashpoints such as Kpokpolobi, Achara and Girinya all in Kogi LGA.

The Tawari attack which left over 20 persons dead, is one of the most recent in a series of killings by the terrorists in some parts of the country.

The bandits mode of operations are said to be similar as they are notorious for abduction and killing of civilians especially in the northeast where Boko Haram started.

It is suspected that some members of the group who could not withstand the superior fire power of the Nigerian military, managed to find their way to Kogi, Nasarawa and FCT where they are said to have camps and carrying out their deadly activities against innocent people.

Meanwhile, the authorities both in Abuja, Lokoja and Nasarawa have resolved to deal ruthlessly with the insurgents wherever they are found.
