Armed robbers shoot, and dispossess money from an FRSC Officer in Kogi

IDRIS AHMED, Lokoja

A gang of suspected armed robbers on Friday allegedly trailed and attacked an officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission in broad daylight in Lokoja, dispossessing him of yet-to-be-ascertained amount of money.

The officer, who was simply identified as Abu was suspected to have been trailed from a bank after a transaction while heading towards his house at Zango a suburb of Lokoja,

Eyewitnesses stated that the armed robbers trailed the officer who was riding a motorcycle from the bank up to the phase 1 Housing units market, Lokongoma, where he was double-crossed by the suspected robbers.

According to a witness, the assailants shot severally into the air and started dragging the bag containing large sums of money with him and in the process shot him three times in both legs and shoulder.

The Kogi State Police Command while confirming the robbery incident, said N139,000 was recovered from the scene, while the officer was rushed to a hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

The police public relations officer, Kogi State Command, SP William Aya, said that “at exactly 1:30 pm, officers received a distress call and rushed to the scene at Lokongoma Housing units Phase 1, in Lokoja and met Abu a Federal Road Safety Officer in a pool of his blood, having sustained injuries from the gunshots at both legs and his shoulder.

The PPRO stated that as he was coming from the bank a Toyota Camry Ash color car accosted him and blocked him right in front of Lokongoma market, phase 1 in Lokoja, and was dispossessed of the unspecified sum of money”.

He disclosed that a sum of N139,000 was recovered at the scene while the victim was rushed to hospital for medical attention.

SP Aya said that police Commissioner Bertrand Onuoha has drafted officers to the scene to ensure the safety of lives and property and trail the robber bringing them to book.
