Alhaji (Dr) Shaba Mekudi, National President of the National Association of Nigeria Traditional Medicine Practitioners, has urged the Kogi State Government to establish a traditional medicine regulatory board.

Alhaji Shaba made the call on Sunday at the inauguration of the state office of the Association in Lokoja.

He noted that upon establishment, the office will improve the practice of traditional medicine, pointing out that the state is endowed with a wealth of medicinal plants and raw materials.

The NANTMP National President stated that the proposed Traditional Medicine council bill, awaiting National Assembly approval, will establish regulatory frameworks to eliminate fraudulent practices within the profession.

Alhaji Shaba Mekudi noted that the World Health Organization asserts 85-90% of the world’s population depends on traditional medicine for survival, thus warranting comprehensive efforts to reinvigorate the sector.

“I am honored to be part of this ceremony today, and I observe that Kogi is advancing, setting a precedent for others to emulate.”

The National President requested state members’ cooperation, commending State Chairman Doctor Chief Ibrahim Amodu for his exemplary leadership and tireless efforts to advance the organization.

Earlier, Dr. Chief Ibrahim Amodu, state chairman of NANTMP, stated that the inauguration of the office aimed to ease administrative activities, explaining that despite limited resources, his leadership was determined to make a positive impact.

Dr. Ibrahim Amodu guarantees enhanced traditional medicine practice in the state and urges unregistered practitioners to regularize their status in their own interest.
