The College of Health Science and Technology, Keffi’s community health students have embarked on a health awareness campaign in rural communities, tasked with adopting practical methods of health promotion.

The ‘Community Diagnosis’ program, held annually, provides students with the opportunity to visit various communities and educate residents on the importance of healthy living. This year’s campaign was conducted in Jigwada, Keffi Local Government Area, on Thursday.

According to Mrs. Rachel Joseph, Head of Department, Community Health, the program began with house numbering by students to identify areas of concern and provide necessary health assistance.

Mrs. Helen Calep, Deputy Dean, Student Affairs, praised the final-year students for their positive implementation of the exercise, saying it would expose them to real-life situations.

The Village Head of Jigwada, Mr. Aeron Agada, thanked the college management for sending students to offer free medical assistance, promising that the community would adhere to their medical advice.

Solomon Inchauka and Gloria Abel Sadiya, President and representative of the Community Health Students Association, respectively, said they realized the community was living in an unhygienic environment, prompting the awareness campaign.

The event featured a drama presentation highlighting the importance of healthy living conditions and regular hospital visits.

This community diagnosis program is part of the students’ learning experience, aimed at promoting healthy living and providing free medical assistance to rural communities.
