Kogi: Bashir Gegu Donates Millions to Advance Education, Pledges Classrooms to Mentor Comprehensive School in Gegu Beki

Speaking on Saturday, Chief Engr. Muhammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu, the Kogi state Commissioner for solid minerals and natural resources, emphasized the commitment of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration to educational development in the State. Under the pragmatic leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the administration is prioritizing education, investing in educational infrastructure, and implementing policies to improve the standard of education in the state.

According to the Kogi local government political leader, the State government has made significant strides in the education sector, doing justice to it by establishing several Universities with the primary objective of providing young Kogites and other Nigerians with access to quality education, which will equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to compete favorably in the global market and become valuable assets to the society.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals, a prominent figure in the nation’s solid minerals sector, underscored the importance of education in national development.

He maintained that education is the foundation upon which a nation’s growth and prosperity are built, and that investing in this sector is essential for the nation’s advancement. In this vein, he urged high-net-worth Nigerians, regardless of their ethnic, religious, or political affiliations, to make significant investments in education, thereby contributing meaningfully to the nation’s development and progress.

Engr. Bashir Gegu, who had the privilege of serving as the Chief host at the launching ceremony of Mentor Comprehensive School Gegu Beki, took the opportunity to commend the school management for their tireless efforts in putting their best foot forward to inculcate moral values into the students, which is essential for their overall development.

He expressed optimism that this school will produce future leaders, hence his enthusiasm for supporting the initiatives that will enable them to thrive and excel in their respective fields.

The Commissioner also used the opportunity to donate 2 million naira and two block of classrooms as part of his support to the institution.

Abubakar Bashir Gegu has lauded the proprietor and staff of Mentor Comprehensive school Gegu Beki for their outstanding efforts in providing students with a balanced education that combines Western and Islamic knowledge. He recognized their contributions to shaping the minds of future leaders and commended their commitment to excellence in education.

In a remarkable demonstration of his commitment to philanthropy, the Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engineer Muhammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu, made substantial donations to support the development of the school. These donations included 1 Million Naira in tribute to his late father, Alhaji Umar Abubakar, and an additional 1 Million Naira on behalf of his family to support less privileged individuals. Furthermore, Bashir Gegu generously provided a block of two classrooms for Mentor Comprehensive School, a lasting tribute to the memory of his late father, Mallam Umar Abubakar, the ASUMEHE KAKA of Gegu Beki chiefdom. This act of kindness serves as a testament to Bashir Gegu’s dedication to giving back to his community and preserving his family’s legacy.

The event also saw a significant donation of two million naira from Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West District. The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Umar, contributed 500,000 naira from Kogi State Commissioner for Finance and Economic development, Hon Idris Asiru Asiwaj, while Hon Idrees Maikudi Girinya, a member representing Kogi Constituency at the State House of Assembly, donated 100,000 naira. Furthermore, Rt. Hon Umar made an additional donation of 300,000 naira, bringing his total contribution to 800,000 naira.

While Honorable Bala Ette, the Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Kogi State on Climate Change, has made his own contribution to support initiatives aimed at supporting the school project . The sum of two hundred thousand Naira donated by Honorable Ette is expected to play a crucial role in promoting environmental sustainability and raising awareness about the importance of addressing climate change.

Furthermore, Honorable Rabiyat Queen Muhammed, the vice chairperson of the Kogi local government, also made a notable donation of one hundred thousand Naira, underscoring her dedication to supporting efforts that prioritize environmental protection.

Earlier, the Proprietor of Mentor Comprehensive School Gegu Beki, Mallam Tenimu Gambo, explained in detail that the aim of the fundraising event was to garner more resources to establish a permanent site for the school, which would provide ample space for modern facilities, and ultimately enable the school to serve its students better and ensure a conducive learning environment that fosters academic excellence and personal growth. By acquiring a permanent site, the school would be able to accommodate an increasing number of students, provide state-of-the-art facilities, and create a comfortable and secure atmosphere that promotes effective learning and character development.
