NYCN Nasarawa chapter condemns Ministry of Youths’ plan for an unlawful caretaker committee
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Nasarawa State Chapter’s leadership, formally repudiates the plan devised by the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, in collaboration with an external entity, to establish an unlawfully constituted and purported Caretaker Committee for the State chapter.
It is important to emphasize that the 2018 Constitution of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) does not bestow upon the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development or any other office the power to dissolve a duly and democratically elected Executive Council of NYCN, nor does it grant the Ministry the authority to establish a Caretaker Committee.
We wish to reiterate that there is an existing Court Order declaring the suspension of the State Executive Council and the subsequent constitution of a Caretaker Committee by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development null and void for failure to comply with the law governing its affairs.
Despite the knowledge of this Court Order, we are shocked that the Ministry has not retraced its steps to comply with the Constitution of the Council and the Court Order. It has continued to engage in the flagrant disregard of a subsisting Order of the Court.
In the light of the foregoing, we wish to categorically state that the State ExEcutive Council of NYCN under Comr Jaafar Muhammad Loko remains intact in Nasarawa State and there is no need of the appointment of any Caretaker Committee, the general public should therefore, disregard this act of impunity, this is an attempt to plunge the peace loving youth of our dear state into unnecessary crisis and to divide them along ethnics and religion for selfish interest of some individuals within and outside the ministry of Youth to score a certain political goal at the detriment of young people and the Government.
We also wish to draw the attention of the Office of the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Secretary to the Government of the state (SSG) as well as Heads of Security Agencies in the state to the illegality perpetrated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
Let it be on record that we have remained calm in the face of needless provocation and injustice meted on us, and have continued to advocate for peace and decorum among young people in the state. However, the Ministry should be held responsible for whatever happens out of this illegality and injustice, Nasarawa state belongs to all of us and we will not allow anybody to place himself above the law and the wills of majority.
Yours in Nation Building,
Comr. S. I. Danka
