The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership and stakeholders in Kogi local area of the State have called on residents to participate actively in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. Their aim is to ensure that all eligible voters aged 18 and above are registered for future elections.

This appeal came after a closed-door meeting at the Executive Chairman’s office in Koton-Karfe, the LGC headquarters on Saturday.

During the meeting, APC stakeholders issued a communique reaffirming their unwavering support for the leadership of Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo. The Kogi LG APC stakeholders also included a special prayer for the peaceful repose of the late Alhaji Ahmed Momoh Sanni, Governor Ahmed Ododo’s father, who passed away recently.

Key points highlighted in the communique include:

Sensitisation on the CVR exercise was to be stepped up across all 11 electoral wards in Kogi Local Government, focusing on youths who have reached the voting age of 18.

The stakeholders committed to collaborating with genuine APC members, involving them fully in party affairs.

Appreciation was expressed toward Engineer Abubakar Bashir Gegu for his tireless and inclusive leadership in sustaining the party’s strength.

There was a pledge to mobilise voters from various polling units to help achieve registration targets.

During the meeting, a committee tasked with working closely with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise, headed by Mr. Abu Sule presented their report to the stakeholders.

The committee’s responsibilities include coordination, supervision, and ensuring compliance with registration guidelines and processes.

The report presentation and stakeholder deliberation focused on the progress, challenges, and recommendations for enhancing the CVR process prior to the upcoming elections.

The committee plays a vital role in facilitating the registration process, ensuring all eligible citizens are registered or update their details, thereby supporting the overarching goal of strengthening democracy through credible elections.

The collaboration with INEC was described by the Kogi LG APC stakeholders as a commitment to transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

Global Times Nigeria reports that the CVR exercise, which commenced nationwide on August 18, 2025 (online) and began physical registration on August 25, 2025, allows for new voter registration, updating of voter information, and transfer of voter records.

The exercise aims to maintain an accurate and credible Register of Voters, fundamental to conducting free and fair elections.

The critical stakeholders meeting was convened by Barrister Muhammed Tanko Musa Osuku, Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Civil Service Commission, and former Senator Alhaji Ado Shuaibu, who were the three zonal leaders represeting Zone A, B, and C.

The zonal leaders stated that the initiative was part of the APC’s push for increased voter registration ahead of the upcoming elections in Kogi State.

Attendees at the meeting comprised representatives from all 11 electoral wards of Kogi Local Government, Engineer Muhammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu, the Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, who also doubled as the political leader of the area, as well as former and serving leaders including Musa Abdulmalik (Executive Chairman, Kogi LG), Hon. Idrees Maikudi (Member representing Kogi constituency at Kogi State House of Assembly), former State assembly representatives Hon. Muhammed Abubakar Tanko Okofi and Hon. Abdulrahman Tanko Ozi. Special advisers and Senior Special Assistants to the governor, APC elders, and party leaders from Zones A, B, and C were also in attendance. During the meeting, the leaders actively contributed and expressed a vote of confidence in the party leadership, pledging their full support and loyalty to the APC in Kogi State.
