NSUK Launches Sanitation Exercise Ahead of Silver Jubilee, Convocation

Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has commenced a sanitation exercise as part of activities marking its forthcoming Silver Jubilee and 8th Combined Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to hold from April 8 to April 11, 2026.

The exercise, held on Monday, was organised by the university management in collaboration with the Nasarawa State Waste Management and Sanitation Authority (NASWAMSA), and extended to surrounding communities including Makwalla, Angwan Lambu and Angwan Yelwa.

Speaking during the exercise, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Halima Doma Kutigi, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, underscored the importance of environmental cleanliness and personal hygiene in safeguarding public health.

She explained that the initiative was deliberately chosen as a starting point for the institution’s milestone celebrations.

She noted that the university, in celebrating its 25th anniversary alongside the convocation ceremony, considered it appropriate to begin with impactful activities, with sanitation identified as a key priority. She also commended the Vice-Chancellor for initiating the programme, describing it as timely and beneficial.

In his remarks, the Director-General of NASWAMSA, Mohammed Bello Isa, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting hygiene and environmental safety across Nasarawa State.

He praised the university for the collaboration and expressed optimism about sustaining the partnership.

He further lauded the active participation of students, noting that such exercises help instil lasting values of cleanliness and environmental responsibility.

Community leaders, including the Mai Angwan of Makwalla, Angwan Lambu and Angwan Yelwa, separately expressed appreciation to the university management and NASWAMSA for organising the exercise.

They also called for continued support to sustain cleanliness in their communities.

The sanitation exercise commenced in Makwalla, with inspection teams moving across the selected communities to ensure compliance and active participation.
