Anazodo Unveils Urban Renewal Plan for Nnewi Markets
The Executive Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, has unveiled a comprehensive vision for the transformation of markets in Nnewi, aligning with the urban renewal agenda of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
Speaking at a town hall meeting during the Nnewi community’s monthly gathering on Sunday, Anazodo said the state government has provided a clear roadmap for development, with urban regeneration identified as a critical component.
He noted that Nnewi, as a major commercial hub, must not lag behind in the state’s ongoing modernization drive.
According to him, recent efforts to rebuild shops within the markets are part of deliberate steps to actualize the urban renewal policy.
The chairman, however, raised concerns over the proliferation of illegal structures within the markets, describing them as violations of the approved master plan.
He assured residents that the administration would take necessary measures to address the issue.
Highlighting strides in other sectors, Anazodo recalled the recent launch of a farmers’ empowerment initiative by the council, under which more than 400 farmers have received improved seedlings and other forms of support.
He said the programme would be sustained to boost agricultural productivity and ensure food sufficiency in the industrial town.
Anazodo also outlined interventions in healthcare and waste management, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving service delivery and overall living conditions in Nnewi North.
