The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for the Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency, Danladi Jatau, has intensified his campaign ahead of the party’s primary election, soliciting support from stakeholders and party members across the constituency.

Dr. Jatau made the appeal during a series of town hall meetings held on Wednesday in Karu, Keffi and Kokona Local Government Areas, where he addressed party stakeholders, ward and local government officials, as well as supporters.

He urged party members to turn out en masse for the APC primary scheduled for Friday, May 15, 2026, expressing confidence in his chances of emerging victorious.

“I appeal to you to come out in large numbers and vote for me. With the overwhelming support and goodwill I have seen, I am optimistic of victory,” he said.

The Speaker stated that he possesses the requisite experience and capacity to represent the constituency effectively at the House of Representatives, promising quality legislation and impactful representation if elected.

According to him, his decision to contest was in response to calls from constituents, adding that his ambition is driven by a desire to deepen development and improve the welfare of the people.

Dr. Jatau highlighted his achievements as a lawmaker and Speaker, citing interventions in employment, empowerment, education, healthcare, agriculture, water supply and infrastructure.

“I have stabilised the State Assembly, fostered unity among members and ensured synergy with the executive arm for effective governance,” he said.

He appreciated party leaders and members for their continued support, urging them to sustain the momentum. He also cautioned his supporters against engaging in political attacks or reprisals.

“Let us remain focused and play politics by the rules in the interest of peace,” he advised.

The Speaker further called on constituents to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abdullahi Sule’s preferred successor, Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He commended Governor Sule for what he described as his administration’s developmental strides across the state.

As part of efforts to strengthen party structures at the grassroots, Dr. Jatau distributed 32 motorcycles to ward chairmen across the three LGAs.

In separate remarks, APC chairmen of Kokona, Keffi and Karu LGAs, Hon. Jacob Terry Bado, Mr. Muhammad Awwal Idris and Mr. Mutari Samson, praised the Speaker’s leadership, noting that he has brought stability to the State Assembly and possesses the qualities of a national legislator.

They pledged their support for his aspiration.

The campaign rally also witnessed a boost for the APC, as over 100 members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) defected to the ruling party.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, SDP Nasarawa West Zonal Secretary, Mr. Yamusa Ishaya Audu, attributed their decision to Dr. Jatau’s leadership style and the developmental achievements of the Sule administration.

Earlier, the Speaker paid homage to traditional rulers across the constituency, including the Abaga Toni, His Royal Highness Lawrence Sylvester Ayih; the Emir of Keffi, His Royal Highness Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa; and the Esu Karu, His Royal Highness Pharm. Luka Payan Baba, who were represented by their respective district heads.

The royal fathers offered prayers and blessings for his political ambition.

In a highlight of the visit, the Emir of Keffi, Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa, conferred on Dr. Jatau the traditional title of Ganuwa Karamin Keffi in recognition of his contributions to the community.

The Speaker also held interactive sessions with party members and stakeholders in all three LGAs visited, reinforcing his grassroots engagement ahead of the primaries.
