The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, has praised the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Samuel Ogbuku, following the installation of the first phase of 245 solar-powered streetlights in Oginibo Community, located in Ughelli South Local Government Area.

Izeze, an indigene of Oginibo Community, described the project as a landmark development that reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life in communities across the Niger Delta.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, the commissioner celebrated the completion of the project, drawing inspiration from the biblical passage in Genesis 1:3.

“And the Lord said, ‘Let there be light in Oginibo Community,’ and there was light,” he wrote, expressing gratitude to Ogbuku and the NDDC management for bringing the project to fruition.

According to Izeze, the solar-powered streetlight project represents the first Federal Government intervention executed in Oginibo Community since the administration of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

He further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing capable and result-oriented leaders from the Niger Delta region to oversee the affairs of the interventionist agency.

The commissioner noted that the project would significantly improve security, stimulate economic activities, and enhance social life within the community by providing reliable nighttime illumination.

While applauding the completion of the first phase, Izeze appealed to the NDDC to expedite the award and implementation of the second phase of the streetlight project.

He also urged the commission to provide a 500KVA transformer, along with the necessary accessories and cables, to support the electrification of the Oginibo New Town Extension.

“We eagerly await the award of Phase Two of this project, the provision of a 500KVA transformer, and other impactful interventions that will further improve the lives of our people,” he stated.

The commissioner also offered prayers for Ogbuku, members of the NDDC Board and Management, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the people of Oginibo Community, Delta State, and Nigeria as a whole.

Residents have welcomed the solar streetlight project, which is expected to transform the community’s nighttime environment, improve public safety, and reinforce the NDDC’s commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure and development initiatives across the Niger Delta region.
