Labour Party Leadership Reaffirms Confidence in Okereke-Konto 2027 Ticket After Abuja Meeting

The National Leadership of the Labour Party has reaffirmed its confidence in the party’s 2027 presidential ticket of Dr. Chibuzo Sunday Okereke and Hajja Bintu Konto following an interactive session held on Tuesday at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
The meeting, attended by members of the party’s national leadership, served as a platform to strengthen internal unity and reiterate the Labour Party’s commitment to presenting what it described as a competent and inclusive leadership team for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the session, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Distinguished Senator Nenadi Usman, described Hajja Bintu Konto’s emergence as the party’s Vice Presidential Candidate as a reflection of the Labour Party’s enduring commitment to equity, inclusion and social justice.
According to Senator Usman, the nomination aligns with the party’s philosophy of “Mama, Papa, Pikin,” which she said symbolizes the Labour Party’s people-oriented and inclusive values.
She noted that by presenting a woman as its vice-presidential candidate, the Labour Party has distinguished itself among the major political parties contesting the 2027 presidential election by giving women a prominent place on its presidential ticket.
The National Chairman expressed confidence that Konto’s professional background, humanitarian record and leadership experience would complement the vision of the party’s presidential candidate if elected into office.
Nenadi Usman Praises Governor Alex Otti
Senator Usman also commended Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, describing him as the Labour Party’s “poster child” and a model of democratic governance.
She specifically praised the Abia State Government’s recently enacted social welfare legislation aimed at supporting senior citizens, saying it demonstrates the party’s commitment to people-centred governance.
She urged Nigerians seeking improved governance and democratic dividends to support the Labour Party in future elections, citing developments in Abia State as evidence of the party’s governance philosophy.
Okereke Hails Running Mate
The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Chibuzo Sunday Okereke, expressed satisfaction with the selection of Hajja Bintu Konto as his running mate.
He described her as humble, dependable and highly experienced, while emphasizing the importance of women’s participation in governance.
According to Okereke, excluding women from leadership is comparable to “attempting to clap with one hand,” considering their significant contributions to national development.
He praised Konto’s work as a development advocate and public health expert, noting that her humanitarian interventions have impacted thousands of lives across Nigeria.
Okereke also commended Senator Nenadi Usman for her leadership and support throughout the selection process, describing her as an inspiration to women nationwide.
Bintu Konto Pledges Service to Nigerians
Responding, Hajja Bintu Konto thanked the Labour Party leadership for the confidence placed in her, describing Senator Nenadi Usman as a leader committed to justice, fairness and national service.
She pledged to dedicate herself fully to serving Nigerians if elected Vice President in 2027.
Konto recounted her humanitarian efforts during the early years of the Boko Haram insurgency in northern Nigeria, recalling that despite losing her husband to the conflict, she continued providing relief and humanitarian assistance to affected communities.

She said the experience gained through years of humanitarian work would help her contribute meaningfully to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges and implementing people-focused policies.
