…CMD Pledges Support for Clinical Training, Research and Healthcare Deliver
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Lokoja, Dr. Abdulrahman Shehu, has reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to partnering with Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, to strengthen medical education, clinical training, research and healthcare service delivery.
Dr. Shehu gave the assurance during a courtesy and congratulatory visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office in the Senate Building on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
The visit was organised to congratulate Prof. Usman on his appointment as the sixth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university and to commend the significant progress recorded by his administration since assuming office on February 11, 2026.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Shehu described Prof. Usman as a progressive, visionary and result-oriented administrator whose leadership has continued to inspire confidence within and beyond the university community.
He thanked the Vice-Chancellor for receiving his delegation despite his demanding academic and administrative responsibilities, describing the gesture as a reflection of humility, dedication and exemplary leadership.
Reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to collaboration, Dr. Shehu said the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, was ready to provide the human and material resources required to support the successful development of the university’s medical programmes.
He added that the hospital would play a key role in the clinical training of medical students by offering the professional guidance and practical exposure necessary for the successful graduation of PAAU’s first set of medical doctors.
To ensure the partnership achieves its objectives, the Chief Medical Director proposed the establishment of a Joint Advisory Committee made up of representatives from both institutions. According to him, the committee would coordinate collaborative initiatives, engage relevant stakeholders and oversee the effective implementation of agreed programmes.
Dr. Shehu expressed confidence that the collaboration would enhance medical education, research, manpower development and healthcare delivery while contributing significantly to the continued growth of Prince Abubakar Audu University and the overall development of Kogi State.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, expressed appreciation to Dr. Shehu and the management team of the Federal Teaching Hospital for the visit and their demonstration of goodwill towards the university.
He congratulated Dr. Shehu on his appointment as the second substantive Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, and encouraged him to build on the achievements of his predecessors through innovation, creativity and purposeful leadership.
Prof. Usman commended the Chief Medical Director’s humility and commitment to institutional collaboration, describing the proposed partnership as both timely and strategic to the continued growth of the university’s College of Health Sciences.
The Vice-Chancellor also paid tribute to the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Prof. Marietu Ohunene Tenuche, for laying a solid foundation for the College of Health Sciences. He particularly acknowledged the successful accreditation of the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme by the National Universities Commission (NUC), noting that the achievement has positioned the university to train highly competent medical professionals.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to academic excellence, Prof. Usman said the university would continue to embrace strategic partnerships capable of strengthening teaching, research, clinical training and healthcare service delivery.
He further expressed gratitude to the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, CON, and the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for their unwavering support, encouragement and sustained commitment to the advancement of Prince Abubakar Audu University, which, he noted, has continued to experience remarkable growth, stability and institutional transformation.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of copies of the maiden edition of the PAAU Bulletin to Dr. Abdulrahman Shehu by the Vice-Chancellor, symbolising the beginning of a stronger partnership between the two institutions in advancing medical education, clinical training and healthcare services in Kogi State.
