Why 2027 Should Consolidate Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem’s Representation

In politics, the true test of a mandate is not the noise that accompanies an election victory, but the work that follows.
Two years after his election to represent Ajaokuta Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly, Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, popularly known as SEA, has increasingly come under scrutiny as constituents assess his performance and contributions to the constituency.
For his supporters, the verdict is becoming clear: the mandate has been justified, and the argument for another term is gaining momentum.
A second term, in this context, should not be viewed as continuity for its own sake. Rather, it is about consolidation, sustainability and allowing a lawmaker who has gained legislative experience and established working relationships to deepen the programmes and initiatives already started.
Representation Beyond Election Promises
In the National Assembly, meaningful representation is rarely built overnight. Legislative influence develops through experience, committee assignments, relationships, advocacy and persistent follow-up.
It is against this background that the performance of Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem deserves consideration.
A lawyer, community activist and former Chairman of Ajaokuta Social Mega Group, Sanni entered the House with considerable knowledge of community mobilisation and constituency engagement.
During his first term, his supporters say he has distinguished himself through legislative contributions, motions and advocacy on issues affecting his constituents.
As a member of the House Committees on Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Development, he has focused attention on issues including youth employment, agricultural value chains and local government autonomy.
The argument for retaining him in 2027 therefore rests on the belief that experience acquired during the first term can be converted into greater legislative influence in a second.
Infrastructure Projects Across Ajaokuta
Perhaps the most visible aspect of Sanni’s representation has been constituency intervention.
Across communities in Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, projects attributed to his representation include motorised boreholes, solar-powered street lighting, classroom blocks and the rehabilitation of feeder roads.
In Steel Township, motorised boreholes have been provided to address water challenges, while 120 solar poles carrying 360 street lights have been installed around major market areas.
The street-lighting intervention, according to the author’s assessment, has helped improve visibility and extended commercial activities into the evening.
In the education sector, two blocks of six classrooms each have been provided at Community High School, Eganyi, and Government Science High School, Adogo.
The constituency has also benefited from the resurfacing of feeder roads, with about 42 kilometres cited among the interventions, alongside bridges intended to improve access between rural communities and major markets.
For a predominantly industrial and agrarian constituency such as Ajaokuta, the importance of roads, water, electricity and educational infrastructure cannot be overstated.
Empowerment Beyond Tokenism
Another major component of the representation has been empowerment.
According to the author, more than 3,000 youths and women across the 14 wards have benefited from various empowerment programmes associated with Sanni’s representation.
The interventions have reportedly included refrigerators, sewing machines, grinding machines, POS terminals, generators, fertiliser and other agricultural inputs.
Cash support has also been provided, with 300 beneficiaries reportedly receiving ₦100,000 each to strengthen their businesses.
Other programmes have focused on ICT training for persons with disabilities, tailoring, carpentry and micro-credit support for small and medium-sized businesses.
The significance of such interventions, according to supporters, is that beneficiaries receive tools and skills connected to actual economic activities rather than temporary political gifts.
Accessibility and Constituency Engagement
Representation, however, is not limited to physical projects.
One of the attributes supporters associate with Sanni is accessibility.
Through town-hall meetings, engagements with ward leaders and communication channels including WhatsApp and SMS, constituents are said to have opportunities to communicate directly with their representative outside the election cycle.
For a federal constituency comprising 14 wards and communities with different ethnic, religious and socio-economic interests, maintaining regular communication can be critical to effective representation.
The author argues that this approach has helped Sanni cultivate support across different communities in Ajaokuta.
Building Bridges Across Communities
Ajaokuta is politically and socially diverse, with Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and other communities contributing to the constituency’s demographic composition.
The article argues that Sanni’s support base cuts across these communities and that his style of representation has helped promote political inclusiveness.
The 14 APC ward chairmen are also said to have passed a vote of confidence in his leadership.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has reportedly described Sanni in positive terms, including as humble, honest, cooperative and a unifying force.
Such endorsements, if sustained, could strengthen the lawmaker’s political standing ahead of the 2027 election.
What Constituents Are Saying
Beyond official programmes and political endorsements, the strongest argument for any representative ultimately comes from the people.
A resident identified as Hajia Fatima in Ajaokuta Township is quoted as saying that the provision of boreholes and solar lights has improved daily life and commercial activities in the community.
Similarly, Musa K., a farmer, is quoted as crediting Sanni’s scholarship intervention with helping his son continue his education.
These accounts illustrate the importance of constituency projects when they directly address everyday challenges.
Why 2027 Should Be About Consolidation
The central argument for another term is therefore straightforward: if the first term established the foundation, the second term should consolidate it.
Infrastructure requires maintenance and expansion. Empowerment programmes require continuity and scale. Legislative initiatives require follow-up. Constituency projects require monitoring to ensure that their benefits are sustained.
There is also the broader question of Ajaokuta’s industrial future.
With the strategic importance of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex to Nigeria’s industrialisation agenda, an experienced representative could use a second term to intensify advocacy for the resuscitation and effective utilisation of the steel company.
The relationships and legislative experience acquired during a first term can potentially provide a stronger platform for such advocacy.
The Choice Before Ajaokuta
Elections should ultimately be about performance, accountability and the interests of the people.
Where a representative is considered to have performed well, the argument for continuity becomes stronger.
Conversely, where representation has failed, voters have every democratic right to demand change.
For supporters of Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, however, the evidence from his first term makes a compelling case for renewal.
Their position is that Ajaokuta Federal Constituency should not abandon a representation they believe is delivering results simply for the sake of political rotation.
The 2027 election will provide the people with another opportunity to assess the record and make their choice.
For those who believe the constituency has witnessed meaningful progress under Sanni, the message is simple: a justified mandate deserves a justified renewal. And for Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, they believe that renewal should be Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, SEA.
