Abaji Area Council Chairman to Receive Award at Democracy Newsline 16th Public Lecture in Abuja

The Executive Chairman of Abaji Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, Hon. Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, has emerged as the Best Performing Executive Chairman in the FCT for 2026, according to Democracy Newsline Newspaper.
The recognition is in acknowledgement of his performance in grassroots governance, infrastructural development, youth empowerment and service delivery across Abaji Area Council.

Six-Month Assessment
Announcing the recognition, the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Democracy Newsline Newspaper, Chief Olugbemi Femi, said the selection followed a six-month independent assessment of the performance of the six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory.
He said the assessment focused on key indicators including leadership impact, project execution, transparency, resource management and citizen engagement.
According to Femi, Abdullahi distinguished himself through the implementation of visible projects and a people-oriented approach to governance.
“Hon. Abubakar Umar Abdullahi distinguished himself through visible projects, prudent management of resources, and a people-centred approach to governance. His administration has set a benchmark for what effective leadership at the grassroots should look like,” Chief Femi stated.
Award Presentation August 19
The award will be formally presented to the Abaji Area Council chairman on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, during the 16th Public Lecture and Induction into the Good Governance Hall of Fame organised by Democracy Newsline Newspaper.
The ceremony is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the Banquet Hall, National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.
The public lecture will be held under the theme: “Economic Reform and Sustainable Development in a Democracy: The Nigeria Experience.”
The annual event is designed to celebrate Nigerians who have demonstrated excellence, integrity and commitment to good governance and public service.
Stakeholders, Residents Expected
The Board, Management and Staff of Democracy Newsline Newspaper have invited stakeholders, residents of the Federal Capital Territory, community leaders and well-wishers to attend the ceremony and join in celebrating the award recipients.
The recognition of Hon. Abubakar Umar Abdullahi is expected to place further attention on the role of effective grassroots leadership in promoting infrastructure, inclusive governance and improved service delivery within the FCT.
