Engr. Sunday Peter, a Kogi-born philanthropist and grassroots development advocate, has reaffirmed his commitment to people-centred leadership with a wide-ranging empowerment initiative in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The intervention, which included the provision of solar lights, clothing materials, rice, cash support and scholarships, was aimed at supporting residents, strengthening livelihoods and creating opportunities for vulnerable members of the community.

The initiative also targeted market women, small-scale entrepreneurs and other residents, with the organisers describing it as part of efforts to promote rural development and improve socioeconomic conditions at the grassroots.

Speaking during the programme, Engr. Sunday Peter said meaningful leadership should go beyond political activities and be reflected in interventions that address the everyday needs of the people.

He stressed the importance of supporting citizens whose economic activities contribute significantly to household welfare and community development.

According to him, market women, petty traders and small-scale entrepreneurs play an important role in sustaining families and local economies, making investment in their economic capacity an investment in the wider community

He also emphasised the need for inclusive grassroots development, noting that empowerment initiatives should focus on the aspirations, welfare and socioeconomic advancement of the people.

Beneficiaries and community members expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing the assistance as timely amid economic pressures facing households and small businesses.

On political participation, Peter urged beneficiaries and community stakeholders to remain actively engaged in the democratic process and support the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He said citizens should participate in politics with emphasis on accountability, development and the collective interest of their communities.

The African Democratic Congress is a registered Nigerian political party listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Peter further called on residents to approach the 2027 electoral cycle with attention to leadership, development and issues affecting their communities.

The organisers said the initiative would continue to promote economic independence, grassroots participation, community outreach and human development across Olamaboro Local Government Area.

The programme, they said, represents an approach to grassroots engagement that combines community support with political participation and social responsibility.
