Political history will be made today in Kaduna State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flags off its presidential campaign in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. The gathering is expected to attract governors, party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters from across the country, signalling the ruling party’s determination to consolidate its national political strength and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda. Beyond the spectacle of a major political rally, Kaduna provides a platform to showcase the administration’s achievements, articulate its vision for Nigeria and mobilise support ahead of the 2027 general election.

Electioneering is an essential feature of Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and representative government. It enables political parties to present their programmes, communicate their records and seek the mandate of citizens through the ballot box. The APC’s mobilisation reflects the importance of political participation and the relationship between governance and democratic legitimacy. As the country approaches another electoral cycle, the party is positioning the Renewed Hope Agenda as a framework for consolidating economic reforms, expanding development opportunities and strengthening national prosperity.

The APC enters the 2027 election season with considerable political strength, controlling 31 of Nigeria’s 36 state governorships as of September 2026. Its extensive network of governors, legislators, local government leaders and grassroots stakeholders provides a formidable platform for nationwide mobilisation and policy communication. The growing alignment of influential political actors with the ruling party further broadens its national coalition. Together with the advantages of incumbency, this expansive political structure places President Tinubu and the APC in a strong position as the country moves towards the next presidential election.

The Director-General of the APC presidential campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, assured the party, Mr President and Nigerians that the campaign flag ceremony will be second to none in the history of the nation’s electioneering activities.

At the heart of the administration’s governing philosophy is the Renewed Hope Agenda, anchored on economic restructuring, fiscal reforms, infrastructure development, education financing, investment mobilisation and international engagement. Since assuming office in May 2023, President Tinubu has pursued major reforms, including petrol subsidy removal and foreign-exchange market liberalisation, to address longstanding structural distortions and establish a more sustainable economic foundation. These measures are intended to strengthen public finances, improve economic efficiency, attract investment and stimulate productive activity. The administration’s central proposition is that difficult but necessary reforms can lay the foundation for a more resilient and competitive Nigerian economy.

Nigeria’s external reserve position provides an important indicator of progress in strengthening macroeconomic stability. The International Monetary Fund reported gross international reserves of approximately US$46 billion at the end of 2025, while the Federal Ministry of Finance reported approximately US$54.7 billion in September 2026. Stronger reserves can support international payments, reinforce investor confidence and improve the country’s capacity to withstand external economic shocks. These developments, alongside foreign-exchange reforms and efforts to expand domestic production, form part of the administration’s broader strategy to improve economic stability and strengthen Nigeria’s standing in international markets.

Education remains a major pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda, reflecting the administration’s commitment to human capital development and opportunities for young Nigerians. The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), established under the Student Loans Act of 2024, has widened access to financial assistance for eligible students in tertiary institutions. According to figures published by the Presidency in December 2025, the fund had disbursed ₦86.3 billion to more than 450,000 students across 218 institutions. Alongside increased education financing and support for basic education, the initiative represents a significant investment in skills development, social mobility and the productive capacity of Nigeria’s future workforce.

Infrastructure development is another defining feature of the administration’s economic programme. Federal road and transport projects are intended to improve connectivity between commercial centres, agricultural communities and regional markets, facilitating the movement of people and goods. Improved transport networks can reduce logistics costs, strengthen agricultural value chains, enhance market access and encourage private investment. By prioritising strategic infrastructure, the Tinubu administration is seeking to improve economic integration and establish a stronger foundation for trade, employment and development across the federation.

President Tinubu’s foreign policy has sought to broaden Nigeria’s international partnerships and strengthen its diplomatic standing. The administration’s 4D framework—Demography, Development, Diaspora and Democracy—connects Nigeria’s population, development priorities, diaspora networks and democratic institutions with its international engagements. Nigeria’s admission as a BRICS partner country in 2025 and its participation in international economic and diplomatic initiatives provide opportunities to expand trade, attract investment, facilitate technology transfer and strengthen cooperation. These engagements reflect the administration’s ambition to translate Nigeria’s strategic importance into tangible economic and diplomatic benefits.

The Renewed Hope Ambassadors initiative complements these programmes by providing a platform for communicating the administration’s policies and achievements across the country. President Tinubu appointed Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State as Renewed Hope Ambassador in November 2025, strengthening the initiative’s political coordination. Through grassroots engagement, stakeholder mobilisation and public enlightenment, the programme connects national policy priorities with communities and creates opportunities for citizens to understand the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda. Its presence within the APC’s broader political structure reinforces the party’s nationwide engagement as the 2027 election approaches.

Delta State occupies a strategic position in the APC’s national political structure, particularly following Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s appointment as Director of Finance/Treasurer of the Presidential Campaign Council. The appointment places the Delta governor within the financial leadership of the national campaign organisation and reflects his growing national political profile. It also underscores the importance of the South-South geopolitical zone to the APC’s national coalition and recognises Delta’s contribution to Nigeria’s petroleum economy. For the state, the appointment offers an important platform for national representation and participation in the coordination of the party’s political activities.

As a major oil-producing state, Delta has significant interests in national discussions concerning petroleum revenue, federal allocations, infrastructure, environmental protection and economic diversification. Its contribution to Nigeria’s petroleum industry makes federal-state collaboration particularly important for the development of oil-producing communities and the wider Niger Delta. Governor Oborevwori’s prominent role in the campaign structure strengthens Delta’s visibility within the ruling party and provides an opportunity to advance the state’s development priorities. His appointment also reflects the growing integration of Delta into the APC’s national coalition and its relevance within the present political dispensation.

The APC’s national structure remains one of its greatest political assets. Its extensive network of governors and other elected officials provides a broad platform for political engagement, while the participation of influential stakeholders across different geopolitical zones strengthens its national reach. Coordination between federal and state leadership also creates opportunities to communicate government policies and connect national development priorities with local realities. This combination of political organisation, institutional presence and established grassroots relationships gives the ruling party considerable reach as it prepares for the 2027 presidential election.

The administration’s record provides the substance of the APC’s continuity narrative. Economic restructuring, stronger reported external reserves, expanded student financing, infrastructure investment and international engagement constitute important elements of the Renewed Hope Agenda. Together, these initiatives reflect the government’s stated ambition to strengthen the economy, expand opportunities and improve Nigeria’s long-term development prospects. The party’s nationwide platform provides a means of presenting these programmes as part of a broader vision for economic resilience, increased productivity and national prosperity.

The APC’s expanding political coalition also demonstrates its capacity to bring together leaders and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds under a common national platform. Governors and other influential political actors contribute established networks, public-sector experience and relationships with communities across the country. Their participation strengthens the party’s organisational reach, while the presidency provides a central platform for communicating the administration’s governing priorities. The combination of incumbency, an extensive governorship network and a clearly defined policy agenda gives the APC a formidable political foundation ahead of 2027.

These advantages explain why the ruling party is well positioned to make a strong case for a renewed mandate. President Tinubu’s national visibility, the APC’s presence across 31 state governorships and the support of influential political stakeholders provide substantial organisational strength. The Renewed Hope Agenda supplies a governing framework around which the party can present its economic reforms, education initiatives, infrastructure programmes and international engagements. The alignment of these political and policy assets makes the APC a formidable contender in the forthcoming presidential election.

For Delta State, Governor Oborevwori’s appointment adds an important regional dimension to the APC’s national mobilisation. His position within the campaign’s financial leadership highlights the strategic relevance of the South-South and the contribution of oil-producing states to Nigeria’s economy. It also places Delta within the core organisational framework of the ruling party at a pivotal moment in the country’s political calendar. The appointment is a significant marker of the state’s national political profile and its participation in the APC’s broader vision for Nigeria.

The Kaduna flag-off therefore brings together political mobilisation, national leadership and the administration’s development agenda. For President Tinubu, it provides an opportunity to communicate his administration’s record and the case for consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda. For the APC, it showcases the breadth of its national political organisation and the participation of governors and stakeholders across the federation. For Delta State, Governor Oborevwori’s appointment reinforces its representation within the national political framework and highlights its place in the party’s expanding coalition.

As Nigeria moves towards the 2027 general election, the APC’s political strength rests on its nationwide structure, its extensive governorship network, the support of influential political actors and the policy platform of the Renewed Hope Agenda. The administration’s economic reforms, education financing initiatives, infrastructure programmes and international engagements provide the principal elements of its governing narrative. These factors position the party to campaign on continuity, consolidate its political alliances and present its vision for the next phase of national development.

The significance of Kaduna ultimately lies in its role as a moment of renewed mobilisation and a platform for communicating the Tinubu administration’s priorities. With President Tinubu leading the national political platform, governors and stakeholders contributing to the party’s extensive reach, and Governor Oborevwori representing Delta within the campaign’s financial leadership, the APC enters the 2027 election season with substantial organisational advantages. The Renewed Hope Agenda remains central to its message of continuity, economic transformation and national development as Nigerians prepare to choose their next president.
