Anambra 2021: Why Ndi APC Called Johnbosco Onunkwo to Run for Governor
Ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Anambra State, one individual whose humanitarian and developmental strides have continued to endear him to the people is Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo.
Interestingly enough, Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo is neither a government contractor nor a political office holder. He is a young man who has distinguished himself in his professional career and has been transferring that knowledge and experience, in his individual capacity, to Anambra State, a state in dire need of good and effective leadership.
Johnbosco Onunkwo was born on the 31st of October, 1975. He is a native of Umuchu in Aguata local government area of Anambra State.
He attended St. Teresa’s College, Nsukka and obtained SSC in 1991. He studied Electrical/Electronics Engineering at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka where he graduated with Second Class Honours (Upper Div.) in 1997.

He worked briefly at Milyke Investments Ltd., as Head of Operations between 2000-2003 before joining Nigerian AGIP Oil Company where he has earned several promotions to the level of Global Maintenance Engineer in 2020.
Moved by the burning desire to bring succour to the downtrodden, rekindle the potentials of the youths by giving meaning to the ideas and contribute to community development, Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo founded the Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation, a Non-profit humanitarian organization which has endeared itself to the public because of its charitable intervention/empowerment programmes aimed at caring for humanity, developing our communities and providing a platform for accelerated realisation of young people’s potentials and dreams.
From 2015 till date, the Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation has granted scholarships worth over 35 million naira to more than 500 indigent students in tertiary institutions. The foundation also paid full school fees and registered more than 300 indigent students in secondary schools to sit for Senior School Certificate Exams. Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation also donated Maths sets, note books and school bags to pupils of schools in rural communities of Aguata and Orumba North Local Government Areas.
In 2017, his foundation launched The New Conversation for youths in order to enhance active participation of youths in politics and governance. In 2019, the foundation launched The New Conversation II during which participating youths were economically empowered to enable them realise their dreams and aspirations.
That same 2019, Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo launched an empowerment programme that was targeted at helping twenty-one (21) hardworking but struggling individuals to break their limits and achieve their dreams.
In April 2020, the foundation distributed covid-19 protective kits, relief funds and other palliatives including foodstuff to poorest homes in the 21 local government areas of Anambra State.
The Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation has contributed to ensuring a safer environment for Anambra populace by donating thousands of fire extinguishers and some money to markets in Onitsha during Onitsha fire outbreak last year.
In 2020, the foundation launched an agricultural development programme aimed at supporting young farmers, training youths on mechanised farming, and boosting agricultural development in Anambra State.

November 2020, Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo financially empowered 30 persons with huge sums of money in Awka, Anambra State to enable the beneficiaries revive their businesses and cushion the negative effects of covid-19 on trade and investments.
Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation has carried out free Medical Outreaches in various communities of Anambra State including Umuchu, Ekwulobia, Achina, Ikenga, Uga, Akpo, Oraeri, Igboukwu, Isuofia, Umuona, Aguluezechukwu, Agulu, Orumba North LGA, Orumba South LGA, Idemili South LGA, etc. During these free medical outreaches, free eye tests were administered, free reading glasses were distributed and free cataract surgeries were done on patients. Also, free blood pressure check kits and drugs were given to beneficiaries/patients.
Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation has also built a hospital in Umuchu to give medical attention to the local populace. Moreso, this 2020, the foundation completed the construction of a modern bus stand at UNIZIK to ameliorate the plight of students using the once decrepit bus stand.
In addition, Johnbosco Onunkwo has recently built and donated an iconic edifice, the first of its kind, for Archbishop Valerian Okeke Music Academy, Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha to help young ones pursuing careers in music to harness their potentials optimally.
In recognition of these outstanding contributions to community development, many communities, corporate bodies, associations, governments, and non-governmental organizations have bestowed honorific investitures on his amiable personality including the Ozoigbondu n’Ekwulobia, Ugochinyelu MBA n’Ukpo, Kpakpando n’Ukwulu, Ezeomeogo n’Umunya, and so many others.
In view of his leadership antecedents, Ndi Anambra in APC have called on him to contest and be given the mandate of the people, to manage and harness the resources of our state for the good of all. They have seen that he is trustworthy, having experienced firsthand his unparalleled leadership qualities. Some of the things other aspirants are saying they will do are things Johnbosco Onunkwo has done for Anambra State in individual capacity and he has shown by this example that he will do much better as governor if given the mandate of the people. Every man and woman who means well for Anambra State should support this illustrious son of the soil to develop our state and make it the best place in Sub saharan Africa.
