AOIYEO organises town hall meeting in Gwagwalada.
The Original Inhabitants Youth Empowerment Organization (AOIYEO) in conjunction with MarchAthur Foundation have organized a town hall meeting in the Gwagwalada area council.
The meeting, which was held at the Gwagwalada council secretariat conference hall was tagged ‘promoting the right of the original inhabitants of the FCT”.
Speaking at the meeting, the project/programme manager of AOIYEO, Bitrus Lawrence Garki, described the meeting as strategic where stakeholders and youth come together to deliberate on challenges facing indigenous people of the FCT.
He said the meeting also provided a rallying point where issues that affect natives of the territory are discussed collectively to find a lasting solution to them.
An FCT stakeholder, Abubakar U. Sadiq, who also spoke at the meeting, decried the prolonged marginalization of the people of the FCT.
He said despite the outcry of natives of the FCT to have a representative at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, the federal government has continued to keep deaf ears to the demand of the natives.
“At least, if a native from FCT is appointed to be a member of FEC today, most of the challenges we are facing will surely get to the ears of Mr president,” he said.
