APC North/South Zoning Brouhaha: Middle Belt Vows To Produce Next President
Following reports that the All Progressive Congress (APC) has zoned its presidential ticket bidding to the Southern region of the country and Chairmanship to the North, the North Central stakeholders have said that the middle belt region has resolved not to accept any position other than the presidency, alleging that it has been marginalized for too long.
Speaking for the North Central, the Coalition of North Central Political Leaders (CNCPL), a socio-political group of the elites from the region said in a statement that it would reject any move to force the position of National Party Chairman on the region, noting that chairmanship is not its birthright.
CNC said Nigerians should disregard any zoning arrangement moving the presidency to the south as it is the turn of the North Central to produce the next president of the country.

The group said it’s pained by the level of marginalization the region is facing. It said the core north does not carry it along and the South doesn’t draw it close.
The region vowed to push for the presidential seat as it has been the only region yet to occupy the office since the inception of Nigeria. It also disclosed that the APC zoning arrangement announced by the Kaduna State Governor, Malam El-rufai is untrue and unacceptable alluding to the fact that the governor is not the spokesperson of the party or the party’s CECPC representative.
