Clerics attack on Wike: FCT natives urged to suspend planned protest

By Sadiq Abubakar, Abuja.

The natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that comprised of nine tribes have urged to suspend their planned peaceful protest in support of the FCT minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, over call by some northern clerics claiming that FCT belongs to the north.

Our correspondent had reported that some clerics including a renown Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, had called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove Wike as FCT minister if he want to be on the same page with him.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, on Thursday, the FCT commissioner for Public Complaints Commission (PCC) Ezekiel Musa Dalhatu, said the call followed series petition his office has received from natives and stakeholders of the FCT over claims by some northern clerics claiming ownership of land in FCT.

He assured the natives that the commission will ensure it liaise with other government agencies to contain any further incitement in order to amicably resolve their grievances.

According to him, the office of the commission has also watched with disdain how some clerics have come out in a rather vexatious manner to vent toxic comments on the FCT minister Nyesom Wike, by falsely claiming ownership of entire lands in FCT.

“And we urge FCT minister Nyemso Wike not to be distracted by pseudo -political forces but focus on resolving the numerous developmental challenges facing the FCT,” he said.

Musa, while also speaking on problem of insecurity in the FCT, especially on incessant cases of farmers and herders clashes and kidnappings, said his office has recommended for suspension of mining activities at rural communities of the FCT.
