Comrade Alkali From Radio Nigeria re-elected Nasarawa State NUJ Chairman, NAN Correspondent emerged Secretary

The Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) in Nasarawa State has re-elected its outgoing Chairman Comrade Salihu Muhammed Alkali of Radio Nigeria Precious FM Lafia for the second term in office unopposed.

The Union also re-elected its outgoing Secretary Comrade Sunday John of News Agency of Nigeria NAN alongside other officials unopposed with a tasked on Federal Government to redouble its efforts to provide palliatives to Nigerians in order to cushion the effects of subsidy removal in the country.

Mr Chris Isiguzo, the NUJ National President made the call during the Perennial Delegate Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) , Nasarawa State Council in Lafia today Thursday.

Isiguzo, who was represented by Mr Chris Atsaka, the Vice President of NUJ Zone D said that if the federal government redoubled its efforts to provide palliatives, it would go a long way in reducing the suffering Nigerians are currently passing through.

Acording to him, His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu is hitting the ground running in terms of making sure that palliatives are provided to Nigerians to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.

” We want to urge the federal government to redouble its efforts in that direction as Nigerians are not having its easier due to fuel subsidy removal in the country,” he said.

The NUJ Presdient congratulated the new officials and urged them to live above board while discharging their duties.

” First and foremost, I want to congratulate Comrade Salihu Alkali for his re-election as Chairman, other executive members for their re-election.

” This means that you have confidence in his leadership style, that was why you have re-elected him and other excos for the second term.

” We are proud of all of you, please continue to adhere strictly to your professional ethics,” he said.

Isiguzo said that the re- election of Alkali and his EXCOs proved that the chairman has done tremendously well in his first tenure

He called on Journalists to continue to do their job without fear or favour and to continue to adhere strictly to their professional ethics.

The NUJ President also called on members to support the new officials to succeed.

He appreciated Gov. Sule for supporting the activities of the union in the state to succeed.

Also Speaking, Alhaji Mohammed Iliyasu Idde, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs, Office of the SSG, Nasarawa State, Mr Allahnana Attah, former Permanent Secretary in the state, Alhaji Mukhtar Wakeel, Founder of Nasarawa Newsline, Hajiya Hadiza Umar, Chairperson, NAWOJ, Nasarawa State, Mr Matthew Kuju, retired Editor, Eggon News have lauded the chairman of the council for providing all inclusive leadership.

They urged him to sustained his good work in the interest of journalism profession and peace in the state.

They have assured him of their support to succeed.

They called on the members to be loyal and support the chairman and his executive members to succeed.

Responding, Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali, the Chairman of the Council thanked the members of the union for re-electing him for second term.

He assured to sustained his all inclusive and good policies in order to protect, improve and better the welfare of members of the union.

” I want to assure you that we will not fail while discharging our duties as I will sustained my good policies and programmes for improved members welfare,” he said.

Alkali also appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for supporting the activities of the union to succeed in the state.

He assured of his members continued readiness to adhere strictly to their professional ethics in the interest of peace and development.

Comrade Saihu Mohammed Alkali Chairman from , Prescious FM Chapel, Mr Sunday John, Secretary- NAN from Correspondent’s Chapel, Anna Jatau Kuje as Treasurer- Nasarawa Broacasting Service ( NBS) chapel, Mr Abari Solomon Dogara- Financial Secretary from NTA Chapel, Mr Abubakar Sadiq Ayigu as Assistant Secretary- Information Chapel ( Ministry of Information) .

The Executive members that were elected for the first term include Adamu Elafikwu Joel as Vice Chairman from Information Chapel and Mary Elawani Onyaneh as Auditor from NBS chapel.

They have been elected to pilot the affairs of the union for the next three years.
