Elders of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the South East have advised the five state councils in the zone not to part with the Certificates of Occupancy (CofO) of various councils in the zone to the NUJ President, Mr. Chris Isiguzo as demanded.
The veterans went further to condemn Isiguzo’s call demanding that the original CofO of Enugu press Center be handed over to the National Secretariat where he presides. The elders described the demand as dubious, mischievous
The NUJ President had during his on going nationwide council/chapel visitations, requested council’s to submit original CofO of their press centres to the national Secretariat for safe keeping, saying that all NUJ property belonged to the National body.
Isiguzo had also in Jos Plateau state, berated the Enugu state government for enforcing town planning regulations in the state which resulted to demolition of the illegal fence at the Enugu press centre.
Since then the NUJ President had embarked on blackmail of Enugu state government, sponsoring publications against the state government and instigating the public against the popular policy of the state government.
Chairman of the NUJ Elders forum, Chief Sebastian Okafor said their advise is coming amid agitations allegations that some members of NUJ cabal were planning to further sell/lease parts of the press center to private developers.
The veterans called on the caretaker committee in Enugu sate to reject the move, noting that the request was not in good faith.
The group at it’s expanded meeting in Enugu, during the weekend, advised leadership of various Council’s across the zone not to release it’s CofO to Mr President as it might lead to perfection of illegality to sell press centers across the zone.
