Edo Assembly Get New Speaker, Okiye Impeached

The Speaker Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Frank Okiye has been impeached.

Hon Frank Okiye was impeached by nine out 10 inaugurated state lawmakers on Monday.

The Majority Leader, Hon Henry Okruhobo moved the motion for Okiye’s removal during a sitting presided by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Roland Asoro.

The member representing Igueben state constituency, Hon. Ephraim Aluebhosele moved a motion to nominate the new speaker and it was seconded by the member representing Akoko-Edo two state constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Agbaje.

The Deputy Speaker put the motion to a voice vote which was supported by all the members at plenary.

The new speaker, Mr Marcus Onobun upon his election, thanked the members for his election as new speaker of the house.

Okiye is a loyalist of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
