FG mulls concrete roads construction for durability, low cost.

The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has revealed that the federal government is considering concrete road construction that guarantees durability and low maintenance cost.

Senator Umahi, who was in Kogi state on Tuesday to inspect the state of federal roads, acknowledged Kogi state government’s comprehensive turn around efforts to maintain the dilapidated federal roads across the state.

He revealed that the federal government has plans for long lasting, low maintenance concrete roads with low maintenance cost that can last for over 50 years without maintenance.

The Minister also disclosed that concrete roads are cheaper in terms of construction cost and the guarantee of construction materials.

Senator Umahi after inspecting the Lokoja- Ganaja – Ajaokuta road appreciated Governor Bello’s road maintenance efforts, promising to redesign the road.

Other areas inspected included bridge reconstruction at Gada-biu, the Abaji section of Abuja-Lokoja road, Murtala Muhammed Bridge Koton – Karfe, Lokoja-Okene road, and Lokoja-Kabba road.

Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, while appreciating the Minister of Works for his visit to the state, expressed optimism that the present administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is capable and committed to enhancing and maintaining the diverse road infrastructure across the country.

He commended the Minister’s proactive approach in inspecting deteriorating federal roads in the state, which has demonstrated a dedication to resolving the pressing infrastructure issues.

The Governor stated that Kogi state located at strategic position serves as the link between the north and southern parts of the country, deserves better roads for the socio economic development.
