The chairman-elect of Gwagwalada Area council in the FCT, Hon Abubakar Jibrin Giri, has commended President Muhammad Buhari, over the signing of the new electoral Act into law.

Hon Giri, while speaking with newsmen at his Giri residence on Monday, described the signing of the new electoral Act into law by the APC led administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, as a clear demonstration of the president’s readiness to lead a strong democracy in the country.

He stated that the people of FCT under the present APC led administration of Buhari is committed to the betterment of its people of the territory and the country at large.

The chairman, however, compliments the effort of the APC in the FCT under the leadership of the state chairman, Alhaji Abdulmalik Usman, for entrenching democratic values across the FCT, while calling on his fellow politicians to complement the president’s gesture by ensuring free, fair and credible elections at all times, even as he reminded politicians not to see the election as a ‘do or die affairs’.

Hon Giri, while reacting over the malfunctioning of the BVAS machine during the February 12, council election, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to commence addressing some of the challenges associated with the machines ahead of the 2023 general election.

“There was no doubt that the BVAS INEC machine has disenfranchised many eligible voters during the last council election, as many voters were unable to vote, which I want to urge INEC to immediately look into the challenges and address immediately before the 2023 general election,” he said.

He also urged INEC to immediately commence the implementation of the new electoral Act into law that was signed by President Muhammadu Buhari, to ensure transparency.
