It is true that Kogi State has recorded Successes on many grounds, under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello. However, when it comes to gender Sensitivity, the Governor has been simply outstanding.
The adherence by the Executive Governor to the 35% Affirmative Action for Women in politics, a baseline which he has currently exceeded, has attracted widespread Commendation, particularly from bodies interested in the protection of female rights.
I am therefore not surprised that the National Council for Women Societies has deemed it fit to honour the Governor with an award for this unprecedented legacy.
Having noticed the inequality opportunities in the political field which was tilting in favour of the male gender, the Governor as a deliberate policy, ensured the emergence of women as Vice Chairmen and Council leaders in all the 21 Local Governments in the recently conducted elections. He had directed that a certain quota of Councillorship Seats be reserved for women in each of the Local Governments.
I am proud to say that Kogi State has the highest number of female office holders including but not limited to, Secretary to the State Government,Head of Service, Commissioners, Director Generals of major Parastatals as well as the ADC to the Governor.
This will indeed inspire and encourage more women to participate actively in politics.
I therefore Congratulate our leader, Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, on this well deserved recognition. Also, I thank the National Council for Women Societies for acknowledging and Commending the ingenuity of the Governor.
On a final note, there is a saying that to whom much is given, much is equally expected. I therefore implore all beneficiaries of this initiative to work hard in other to justify the positions they hold in the various public offices they have either been elected or appointed to.
Once again, I Congratulate you, the People’s Governor on this well deserved award.
