Kogi Local Government Council Deputy Leader, Honourable Muhammed Gimba, while reacting to the publication, noted that the mentors of falsehood as contained in the said Observer Times online, have ulterior motives either than upholding the ethics of Journalism.

He said there was no time the elected Councillors in Kogi state lamented over the payment of salaries or deductions as insinuated by the online publication and its sponsors, whose objective is to put the state in a bad light.

” The Observer online can not see anything to write on, except the salaries and allowances of the political office holders instead of the general welfare of the electorate”, the Council Leader wondered.

The amount of money as salaries paid to Councillors should not be a major concern, but their performances as elected Representatives of their various wards in the Local Government Councils.

” Our concern now is to put in our best in ensuring good governance and dividends of democracy to our constituencies and by extension the constituents. So nobody or group hiding under the press can incite us against constituted authorities.

According to Hon. Gimba, desperate opposition Politicians are employing all manners of negative strategies to disparage the ruling party and the government of APC in the state.

” Nobody has been cajoled to obtain a loan from any bank as it is not a must because they are at liberty to own property or otherwise. We are capable of deciding to know what is good for us.

” If in the past, governments cajole elected officials to obtain loans, the present Government should not be counted as doing that”, Hon. Gimba stated.

They, therefore, advised such unprofessional writers claiming to be Journalists to seek knowledge of the noble profession for the good of the society to avoid confusing the land.

“Comparing Kogi to other states especially in terms of expenditure on political office holders is an indication of stark ignorance. The states are not equal in terms of resources and allocations from the federation accounts and even internally generated revenue.

” It will be inhuman and absurd to convert the meager resources of the people to the well-being of the councilors at the expense of the electorate”. The Council Leader maintained.

The Council Deputy Leader, therefore, cautioned rumor-mongers that are parading themselves as Journalists to always cross-check facts and as well seek clarifications from appropriate quarters before going to press.
