Kogi Guber: APC set to conduct peaceful, credible primary election, claims opposition parties have no hope

As the Kogi state Governorship election draws nearer, the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is set to conduct peaceful and successful primary election to select its candidate on April 14 for the November Governorship election.

Kogi state Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engineer Abubakar Bashir Gegu, who disclosed to Journalists in Lokoja over the weekend, said with the overwhelming victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party and other opposition parties have finally been degraded.

He explained that the result of the Presidential, National and state Assemblies election is the reflection of Governor Yahaya Bello’s wonderful performance in the art of governance during his tenure.

According to the Commissioner, the Kogi electorate has absolute confidence in the new direction policy of the governor,which has reversed several negative tendencies, such as insecurity, marginalisation, ethnicity and imbalance in the distribution of socio economic amenities and political appointments.

Engr. Gegu stated that though 18 aspirants from the ruling APC are jostling to slug it out on the 14th April for primary election to pick the party’s flag bearer, an enabling fair play ground would be provided for all.

On the agitation for power shift or rotation of the governorship position to certain part of the state, the Commissioner said it is a good idea, but the process has not commenced as aspirants from all over the zones have already purchased intent and nomination forms to contest the election.

While noting that a section of the state have had it’s due share, another is completing a second term, the west zone is yet to occupy the governorship position since the creation of the state.It is incumbent on aspirants to work hard to curry the electors during the primary.

He therefore advised the aspirants going to the primary election to unite and ensure a peaceful, credible and successful conduct of the party primary.

The Commissioner also called on all members of the party, the leadership and relevant stakeholders to always dignify the APC by being loyal and supportive as well as law abiding especially through out the election periods
