A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and Commissioner for Solid Mineral and Natural Resources in Kogi State, Hon (Engineer) Muhammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu has received accolades from various groups, top government functionaries, party stalwarts and well-wishers for his generosity and commitment to the development of his host Kogi/Koton-karge Local Government and State at large.
The commendations was in commemoration of his 44th birthday anniversary with dignitaries from all walks life converged at Girinya, Gegu and Lokoja to honoured the emancipator and their political leader.
The occasion which first kickoff at Girinya community where the commissioner was hosted to a grand reception by sons and daughters of the area in under the supervision of a first-class traditional ruler, Ohinoyi of Girinya kingdom in the Kogi local government area of Kogi state, Alhaji Mohammed Mohmoh Ganaguda.
Alhaji Ganaguda who stood in as father of the day thanked God Almighty for given them a worthy and industrious son in person of Engineer Muhammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu, adding that the young Commissioner has come to change the narrative and hence to bless and encourage him to do more.
While congratulating the Commissioner on his 44th birthday, the first class ruler appreciated Governor Yahaya Bello for believing and having faith in the Commissioner and assured him of their total support before, during and after election.
He used the occasion to solicited for assistance for his community which include, motorized borehole to reduced the pains his people especially women pass through in search of potable drinking water.
He also appealed to government to change the community secondary school to government secondary school in order to benefit from it’s dividend just as other neighbouring communities are enjoying.
At Gegu, Zone C area of Kogi LG it was a heartwarming moment as thousands of people besieged the venue to celebrate an accomplished public officer who have lived his life for others.
Various Speakers at the event said they came from far and near to celebrate the people’s commissioner in view of his philanthropic activities rendered not only to Gegu indigenous, Kogi LG but rather the State and beyond.
The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Aliyu Umar who served as Chairman of the occasion praised Engineer Bashir Gegu for his inclusive leadership style.
The Speaker who was ably represented by the lawmaker representing Kogi/Koton-karfe constituency, Hon idrees Maikudi Aliyu, congratulated the political leader of Kogi LG and noted with gratitude that the Commissioner has made it so easy for APC to win election in Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency.
Responding m, the highly elated Commissioner for Solid Mineral and Natural Resources, Engineer Bashir Gegu said today was not a speech making day despite being his special day, he said the essence of his celebration was to showcase that genuine love he has for humanity.
Bashir Gegu who thanked his mentor and Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for the opportunity given him and support, vowed to continue serving humanity as long as he is alive.
“All this I’m doing for my people, it was the Governor that gave me all the support to give back to the society. You know, Governor is a good listener and he loves giving without looking back” Gegu added.
“The people of Lokoja/Koton-karfe are my strength, for me to continue serving well you all must support APC and Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the APC candidate for November 11 election.”
The Commissioner while marking his 44th birthday anniversary empowered 250 women, 50 youths with cash worth millions of naira to start a petty business of their choices.
The commissioner who donated 11 brand new motorcycles to APC ward chairmen to ease their movement and mobilization of electorates.
In a concerted effort to support and boost Engineer Bashir Gegu’s sacrifice, a group, 4G Network based in Gegu Beki also empowered over 35 persons with 10,000 naira each across 11 electoral ward of Kogi LG.
The 4G network said they decided to come in to support their political leader in view of his unprecedented and landmark achievements over the years. The group prayed for success of the Commissioner and wish him well.
The 11 ward councillors was not left out as they collectively distributed writing materials to primary and secondary schools across the Zone A, B and C in Engineer Bashir Gegu’s support for education in the area.
Another women support group headed by one Hajiya Marka from Lokoja LG donated a dozens of wrappers to Kogi LG women in commemoration of Engineer Bashir Gegu’s 44th birthday. Markar said she was personally in Gegu to identify with the Commissioner and as well solidify with him.
According to her, Engineer Bashir Gegu deserved all the accolades following his intervention in areas of education, youth and women empowerment in the two sisters LGA being Lokoja and Kogi respectively.
She saluted Bashir Gegu at 44, that the young politician was able to accomplished some many things at his young age, and urged him to sustain the tempo.
At Lokoja, precisely the Youth House opposite the Crowther Memorial College, where the National Youth Council of Nigeria from the 21 LGAs led by it’s acting State Chairman Comrade Osiako Ezekiel Sunday and Secretary of the council, Comrade Umar Dan’assbe Mohammed were among hundreds of youth who attended the reception held in honoured of the Commissioner.
Other prominent groups who grace the event include, Ododo Vanguard from Kogi LG, Lion-Heart, Aguye Vanguard, Egbira native musicians and many others.
Global Times Nigeria reports that the Lokoja birthday party was on the instance of GYB ladies and other youth groups from Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency.
It was also reported that the birthday cake was officially cut at Girinya, Gegu and Lokoja.
