Mayor: Group Moves To Resist Politicians, Govt. Officials From Taken Over FCT Natives Ancestral Land

By Sadiq Abubakar, Abuja.

A group under the umbrella of Campaign Against Corruption And Impunity has vowed to resist moves by any government officials and politicians in the FCT from further taken over of the ancestral lands of natives of the territory.

The group coordinator in the FCT, Comrade Baba Sani, who stated while addressing press conference in Abuja, on Monday, said the decision to embark on such is because of failure of the politicians especially members of the national assembly to consider the bill seeking to have a mayor and minister that will represent the natives at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) during the ongoing constitutional amendment.

He said arrangements are being put in place by the group to commence enlighment and sensitization tour to all the rural communities across the FCT I’m order to inform them to resist any attempt by national assembly members that further attempted to take over their ancestral land.

“And it was on this premise that we making it categorically clear that we shall embark on campaign to sensitize our people across rural communities in the FCT that the natives will no longer accept politician that is coming to takeover our accentual land,” he said.

He said it was quite disheartening that despite sacrifices natives of the territory has been making to accommodate other Nigerians in Abuja, the natives have been turned to a second class citizen in their ancestral lands without government considering their plights by reciprocating in identifying with them.

Comrade Sani, added that there was going to be stiff resistance from the natives if any top government officials attempted to take over their land across the FCT.

“And I want to repeat that that’s going to be our next campaign all over the FCT we will ensure that the natives resist any move to takeout their ancestral lands. Enough is enough,” he added.

It will be recalled that the senators had last week voted against a bill for an act to alter the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to provide for the office of Mayor for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and other related matters.
