Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has been commended for his leadership qualities since assumption of office.
Former speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Musa Ahmed Mohammed has lauded the present speaker of the House and his predecessor, Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi has performed well in both his first and second term in office by upholding the respect and dignity of the institution.
This, the former speaker said that was evident in his purposeful and all inclusive leadership style thereby promoting peace in the House,stabilized the system,enacts good laws and enhanced relationship with other arms of government.
Dr Musa Ahmed Mohammed stated this while speaking with journalists from the state in his office, at the headquarters of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria ( ANAN) in Abuja on Friday.
He said that the stability and peace as well as the outstanding records of performance in the House was due to the leadership style of speaker Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi.
” I want to appreciate the speaker for stabilising the institution and for relating well with His Excellency, the former Governor Sen.Tanko Al-
makura in the 5th assembly and presently with Gov. Abdullahi Sule.
“The basic functions of the house is purposeful representation, enact good laws for peace, order and development as wall as effective oversights, and the house is doing very well in all these aspects”
” As it is not easy to manage the legislature which is a house of equal and at the same time manage the executive arm of government .
” The speaker has done well and he is still doing very well that is why he was re-elected for the second term,he absolutely without any sentiments living a good legacy.
” I commend the speaker, I commend the principal officers and members for their understanding and cooperation and for working assiduously for the development of the state.
” I call on them to be patient with each other and continue to maintain their cordial relationships for the progress of Nasarawa State,” he said.
Ahmed Mohammed advised the members of the House to continue to give the speaker their necessary support to succeed.
He also advised members to leave a good legacy by at least sponsoring a personal bill in the House before the end of their tenure.
” I want to encourage members to sponsor bills, at least a bill so that they will be remembered for by the people of their constituencies and the state at large,” he said.
The former speaker who represent Nasarawa Central (PDP) in the 3rd and 4th assembly between 2007 to 2015 assured of his readiness to continue to advise both the legislative and executive arms on matters that would bring speedy development to the state.
On the move for financial autonomy for state Assemblies he said it was long overdue.
“I don’t no why the executive are always afraid of this,not just financial autonomy including administrative autonomy.
“In the constitution,the legislative comes first before the executive and the judiciary,but to the greatest surprise if a speaker want to do anything he most run to the executive for money,is not justified. he added.
