The Nasarawa State House of Assembly is to assess the budget performance of 2020 fiscal year of the state to see the level of its implementation ahead of 2021 budget presentation by Gov.Abdullahi Sule to the state assembly.
RT. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House stated this during the House proceedings in Lafia on Wednesday.
Balarabe Abdullahi said that assessing the 2020 budget performance of the state would guide the House when Gov. Abdullahi Sule will present the 2021 budget to the House in due course.
He urged the House standing committees to commence oversight function to Ministries, Departments and Agencies ( MDAs) tommorow, October 15th, 2020 with the view of assessing the 2020 budget performance of the state for the year under review.
” As House, the constitution empowered us to make laws and also embark on an oversight functions to check the activities of Ministries, Departments and Agencies ( MDAs) in the state.
” We are commencing oversight function to MDAs on Thursday, 15th October, 2020 as His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule will present the 2021 budget to the House very soon.
” Commencing the oversight function to MDAs will help us to assess the 2020 budget performance of the state.
” As oversight function is key to legislative duties , ” he said .
Balarabe Abdullahi said that the oversight function is not to witch hunt anybody but was to ensure that the right things are done in the interest of development.
” Most people misconstrued the work of the House. Oversight function is not to witch hunt anybody but is to ensure good governance, ” the speaker said.
He urged the House committees to do thorough job while on an oversight functions to ensure accountability and transparency for development to thrive.
The speaker further disclosed that the oversight functions would last for three weeks.
