Nasarawa State House of Assembly is to organize a workshop on grassroots legislative practices and procedures for Local Government Council legislative arms in the state.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi disclosed this while playing host to Local Government Council Legislative Arms Speakers Forum in Lafia today.
The speaker, who was elated by the visit whom he described as the first of its kind appreciated the local government legislative arms speakers forum for the initiative.
” This your move is capable of strengthening the bond of cordiality between the state House of Assembly and the local governments legislative arms which will inturn promote peace and good governance both at the state and local government levels,” he said .
Balarabe Abdullahi said a workshop will be organize for elected councilors and clerks to acquaint them with legislative practices and procedures.
” I want to congratulate you for your election and for your emergence as heads of your respective legislative arms, I wish you well, and God’s guidance ”
The speaker also described the local government legislative arms as the watchdog of the executive while urging them to maintain cordial relationship with the executive arm for speedy development.
” You are implored not to abuse your constitutional rights but ensure good working relationship with executive arm for effective service delivery

” I also want to advise you against any confrontation with your council chairmen rather embrace dialogue as a way of resolving any grievances,” he said
He urged them to emulate the leadership style of the state House of Assembly by maintaining good working relationship with the executive.
Balarabe Abdullahi equally advised local government chairmen to carry the legislative arms along for the progress and development of their areas
He stressed that anyone found wanting the Assembly will not hesitate to call him to order.
While assuring the forum of the house support, Balarabe Abdullahi advised them to lead with the fear of God if they must succeed.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Forum, who is also the Speaker of Obi Legislative Arm, Mailafia Abdulmalik said the visit was to among other things to appreciate the Speaker for his outstanding leadership qualities which bring about meaningful development in the state as well as tap from his knowledge.

He, however enumerated their Major challenges to include lack of requisite knowledge of legislative practices and procedures.
The chairman solicited the support of the house to enable them succeed.
