Nasarawa Speaker Urges promotion of Egbira culture, tradition

Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi has called on Egbira communities across the country and beyond to always promote their culture and tradition as well as be good ambassadors of their people anywhere they found themselves.

He has specifically tasked Egbira community of Federal University of Lafia to institute “Egbira Day” as a platform of promoting their heritage, enhance oneness and by extension promote African cultural norms and values.

The Speaker, Balarabe Abdullahi gave the advise while playing host to Egbira who are Staff of Federal University of Lafia at his office today Lafia.

The Speaker Balarabe Abdullahi said as a way of promoting African cultural norms and values, Egbira community in tertiary institutions across the country designates “Egbira Day” and wondered why Federal University of Lafia is left behind, challenging Egbira community of the institution to rise to this task.

” I urge you to organize Egbira day in roder to promote culture, norms and tradition of our people and to serve as instrument of peace and unity.

” As the importance of culture and tradition to the development of every ethnic group and the society cannot be overemphasized, it’s significant are enormous ” he said.

Abdullahi promised to partner with them for growth and tribal upliftment considering the significance of education to societal development hence the need for machineries to be put in place in that direction.

The Speaker, who owns a traditional tittle of Wali Opanda in Egbira land, said among the Kwararafa descendants, Egbira are known for discipline and hard work.

He called on staff of the Federal University of Lafia of Egbira community to sustain the values of the tribe in their conducts as a way of consolidating on the legacy of the Egbira speaking people especially that the Vice Chancellor is of the tribe.

The Speaker, tasked his visitors to cooperate with the Vice chancellor of the institution, prof Shehu Abdullrahaman whom he described as a man of proven integrity that has changed the face of education in Egbira land.

“support the VC, pray for him to succeed, he has done a lot for our people, his type are very very few”

He called on them to be good ambassadors of the Egbira kingdom all the times.

Earlier, leader of the team, Professor Alhassan Usman, Dean Faculty of Agriculture of the University informed the Speaker that they were in his office to congratulate him on his emergence as the Speaker of the Seventh Assembly in the State.

He sued for the Speaker partnership in developing the Egbira nation educationally.

The professor assured the Speaker of their support at all times.
