The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has passed into second reading a bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency and for Other Matters Related Thereto.
Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House announced the passage of the bill into second reading after Hon Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House presented the substance of the bill during the House proceedings in Lafia today.
Balarabe Abdullahi said that the bill if finally passed into law will address the problem of emergency situations in the state.
” A Bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency and for Other Matters Related Thereto scaled second reading,” the speaker said.
The speaker committed the bill to the House Committees on Environment and Health to work on it and report back to the House on December 21st, 2020.
Earlier, Hon Tanko Tunga ( APC-Awe North), the Majority Leader of the House while giving the substance of the bill said that the agency is to formulate policies and advise government on disaster management in the state.
” The government deem it necessary that an agency like this should guide the government on unexpected situations or disaster.
” The Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency will get 2 per cent of the federal allocation to the state if this bill is finally passed into law, ” he said.
Hon Danladi Jatau (PDP-Kokona West) , the Minority Leader of the House supported the bill and urged his colleagues to allow the bill sees the light of the day.
Hon Suleiman Yakubu Azara ( APC-Awe South) also supported the bill, adding that the bill if finally passed into law will address emergency situations that might arise in the state.
The House unanimously agreed for the bill to scale second reading.
