NASIEC Expresses Readiness For February 2021 LG election in Nasarawa, Says Timetable Will Be Released First Week Of September, 2020 — Commission Says

The agency saddle with Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) ably led by it Commission Chairman, says there is no going back on the February 2021 local government election in the State.

This follow the outcome of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly adhoc Committee on NASIEC visited the commission’s head office in Lafia, the State capital on Tuesday.

Leader of Assembly delegation Hon. Mohammed Okpoku (APC – Udege/Loko) and who double as the Chairman, House Committee on NASIEC, led other members of the committee on a courtesy visit to the democracy House said they were at the commission to know its readiness and preparedness ahead of the February, 2021 local government election in the state.

Okpoku expressed the Assembly’s readiness to give the commission the necessary support to conduct free, fair and credible election in the state.

“We are here to know the level of your preparedness and readiness ahead of the 2021 local government election in the state.

“We are ready to support the commission to succeed and to conduct free, fair and credible local government election in the state come February,2021, ” he said.

The committee’s chairman said that it would collaborate with the state government in order to ensure the success of the election.

In another development, Okpoku congratulated the commission’s chairman for his nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari as Ambassador designate.

On his part, Hon Henry John Omaku, the Chairman of the Commission thanked the committee for the visit and appreciated them for always supporting the activities of the commission.

“By God’s grace, we are ready for the conduct of the local government election in February 2021.

“The election will hold as scheduled as the election notice will be released first week of September, 2020 ” he said.

The Chairman said that the commission has gotten the needed support from the state government ahead of the election.

“The local government election budget is less than N1 billion, ” he said.

He assured of free, fair and credible election while soliciting for prayers and support from all and sundry to enable the commission succeed.
