The Director of Local Government (DLG) in charge of Lokoja Local government, Engineer Yahaya M D Farouk has debunked the widespread rumours of imminent retrenchment of local government workers across the state.
An interview with Daily Times Correspondent in Lokoja on Tuesday, Engineer Farouk explained that the state government was only interested in the level of compliance with the conditions given to persons granted clemency after the outcome of the state wide civil service screening exercise.
According to the DLG, the government wants all people indicted due to ignorance or deliberately flouted civil service rules uplifted themselves to revert to their status they were occupying, citing example of workers who went on study leave without permission, whose absence from duty was regarded as absconding from duty.
Other culprits that are expected to revert their positions include age falsifiers and illegal promotions contrary to the civil rules.
He however said nobody is being targeted or witch hunted for retrenchment as being wildly speculated by those wishing the government bad, explaining further that the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, is committed to ensuring not only employment, engaging youths in self reliance so as to minimise dependence on government is his concern.
Engineer Farouk therefore urged local government staff not to panic as the state Governor is not targeting anybody or group of persons to be retrenched as rumoured by opponents of the administration.
While advising the people of Lokoja local government area to endure the global hardship, assured that they will benefit abundantly when all the measures put in place by government for recovery begins to manifest.
