Payment Of Promotion Is A Statutory Right Of Every Civil Servants – Says Kuje Chairman

The Chairman of Kuje area council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo,said payment of promotion is a statutory right every civil servants.

Sabo, stated this while reacting to criticism in some quarters that the council under his administration has refused to pay primary school teachers under the Local Education Authority (LEA) their 2019/2020 promotion.

He said he away when state executives of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) met with the FCT Association of Local of Nigeria (ALGON) chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, unanimously resolved by the six area councils to pay the 2019/2020 primary school teachers promotion.

“Even while I was away, I had telephone conversation with representatives of the NUT who were with the director of administration of my area council, in which I gave them my words of willingness to pay when I returned,”he said.

He said it was quite unfortunate despite he gave the union assurance to pay teacher’s promotion upon his return from a trip, some individuals went about portraying his administration of not being willing to pay the promotion.

According to him, his administration on assumption in office has promotion arrears of 2012 and 2013, saying efforts is ongoing to pay part of the 18 months arrears which he said amounted to N74 million.

“And we have also set aside money for the payment of the 2022 annual increment, while we are also working towards payment of 2021 promotion as soon as results are released,” he said.

The chairman, therefore, assured that since FAAC has already taken place, the council will pay the teachers their promotion alongside the December salary.

He appreciated the primary school for their patience and understanding, saying his administration will continue to give priority to teachers’ welfare.
