Pro-democracy Group hails Nigerian lawmakers on bill for establishment of Youth Development Commission
The Youth Assembly of Nigeria, YAN, on Friday, hailed the national leadership of the national assembly for considering the bill for the establishment of Youth Development Commission.
The organization passionately appealed to the federal lawmakers to expedite action in ensuring its logical conclusion.
This was stated in a communique issued at the end of a 1-Day National Youth Summit of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria held at Nigerian National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.
It was signed by the National Speaker of the youth assembly, Rt Hon Shuaibu Sani, forwarded to newsmen on Friday.
According to the Nigerian youths, it would go along way in addressing sundry issues that pertains to youth development and nation building.
The youth umbrella body which noted that government alone cannot provide employment opportunities for Nigerian youth, and pointed out skill acquisition, vocations, entrepreneurship and agriculture as the way forward to every youths of the country.
It called on government to as a matter of urgency provide enabling environment for the young people to thrive economically.
“Any nation that fails to accord premium to its youth population, such nation will find it very difficult to tackle security challenges that may likely crop up.
“Therefore, government should wake up to its constitutional responsibilities of addressing germane issues that has to do with the young people so as to reduce to the bearest minimum the level of instability and uprising in so many states of the federation,”the organisation also maintained.
On oil subsidy removal by President Bola Tinubu, the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, backed the government’s step, describing it apt and timely.
It partly stated: “It will provide opportunity for the government to save more resources and provide dividends of democracy to the people.
“However, it has created lots of intolerable hardship on Nigerian youth.
“Therefore, we call on the government at all levels to take decisive steps to ameliorate the plight of Nigerian youth”.
While commending the President for appointing two substantive ministers to oversee the affairs of youth, the umbrella body of Nigerian youths assured the present administration in the country of their renewed hope agenda of reviving the lost glory of the country.
