Tension Mounts As Gunmen Kill 3 Fulanis, 9 Cows In Kogi State

Palpable tension has enveloped Egume community in Dekina local government area of Kogi state where three Fulani persons and nine of their cows were allegedly killed by unknown gunmen.

The Assistant Secretary of the Miyeti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Kogi State chapter, Mallam Adamu Abubakar who spoke onbehalf of the Chairman. Alhaji Wakili Yusuf Damina disclosed this to newsmen in Lokoja on Saturday.

According to him, on Thursday May 14th at about 8am, some men heavily armed with guns and other dangerous weapons invaded Fulani community at Ofanwa Elubi in Egume and opened gun fire on them killing three persons on the spot while about nine cows were also killed during the invasion.

Abubakar stated further that many of the Fulani people were injured during the attack that lasted for several minutes, stressing that this was the second attack on his people.

“This was another attack on our innocent members who were gruesomely killed in their cold blood on the 14th May 2020. The repeated killings of our people and members in Igala land is becoming unbearable.

“This time around they launched the attach at our camps, shooting sporadically without any offence at all. Those killed during the attack include two women with name Tine Idris, Fatu Idris and Abdullateef Saleh.” The Assistant Secretary revealed.

He however explained that the attack has been reported to the DPO at Police station in Egume for prompt action adding that the DPO quickly mobilised his men and took the corpses to the station and later to the hospital.

Abubakar, also disclosed that during the last attack sometimes on the 10th of March, 2020, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police CP Ede Ayuba visited the Fulani community where the incident happened and promised to apprehend the perpetrator.

He therefore appealed to the state government to rescue them from the incessant attacks and brutal killings of the innocent Fulani men and women that reside in the state, who are contributing positively to the agricultural and economic growth of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kogi State Police Command, William Ayah, confirmed that three persons and nine cows were killed during the attack on Fulani community in Egume in Dekina LGA.

Ayah also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police already deployed fully armed men to the area to avoid further attack stressing that investigation into the incidence has commenced,while a crack team from the command is on the heels of the fleeing attackers.
