The lawmaker representing Umuahia South Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly and Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon Jerry Uzosike, has stated that the recently assented Electoral Amendment Act by President Muhammadu Buhari would shape the course of the nation’s electoral processes going forward and added that the law would also reduce violence and snatching of the ballot box.

Uzosike also applauded Buhari for heeding to the yearnings and numerous calls by the Nigerian masses to assent to the 2021 electoral amended bill, now a law.

He made his opinion known in an interview with newsmen in Umuahia, the Abia state capital on Saturday.

According to Uzosike, ‘By last Friday, the political hemisphere, the political firmament of the country has changed. You can no longer go and write results in one unit. We need such a law for Nigeria to move to the next level. Some sections of that law have made it important that if you are popular, you can win elections.

He further pointed out that the amended Act would reduce the work of collation officers in elections, as computers can now collate results and it will be there for all to see, adding that there is no provision in the amended electoral Act for the use of incidence forms for elections.

Uzosike who doubled as chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State, also posited that with the signing of the amended Electoral Act, the 2023 general elections would be a harvest time where politicians would test their popularity.

His words, “if you are popular, 2023 is harvest time, one man, one vote. I urge everyone, especially members of his Umuahia south state Constituency to ensure they register in the ongoing Voters Registration exercise and arm themselves with voter’s card”.
