In an efforts to gives Nigerian youths home and abroad a sense of belonging, the YOUTH ASSEMBLY OF NIGERIA Diaspora Directorate under the leadership of Helen Mukoro Idisi has set a training ground to prepare young men and women for leadership responsibilities in every sphere of human endeavours. In doing this, “we have to equip our members with all the intellectual acumen, capacity building and sense of responsibility and responsiveness to make things work.

“In my opinion, leadership is not rocket science except if you decide to make it look so. From the very day you say you know it all as a leader, that is the beginning of your failure. All you need as a leader is to identify like minds who believe in what you do, assemble them, tell them your mission and vision, compare notes and design a template on how to deliver results. While doing that, you must be democratic, very transparent, very accountable and give room for consultation as well as criticisms, either for or against. However, you must always have plans A, B and C to avoid failure and disappointment”. You then leave the rest to God Almighty.

To the glory of God, the best thing that seems to have happened to the leadership of YAN in the 3rd Assembly is having a diplomat, consumate politician, an academic and an advocate of youth development and nation building, Her Excellency, High Chief Helen Mukoro Idisi, a Spanish-Nigerian National of Delta State extraction as the Head of Mission/Director General of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Diaspora Directorate. This woman is one of the best brains we have in Nigeria. Her ingenuity and administrative savvy is beyond explanation. No wonder she’s the only Black African Woman to have contested for President in Spain in the last election.

From the very day I signed her appointment letter, she quickly zoomed into action by setting up a secretariat complex in Alicante, Spain, identified and appointed Ambassadors from other countries of the world to help her drive the vision of the Assembly, designed her program of action for Nigerians in the diaspora, set up a website that will be unveiled in few days time and everything is going on smoothly. I must confess that I’m learning more and more from this woman.

Indeed there are lots of lessons we need to learn from her style of leadership. As a young man, if you are giving responsibility, show passion, commitment and dedication to it. It will open more doors of opportunities for you in the nearest future. You don’t know what tomorrow holds for you. Do not accept leadership responsibility if you know you will not be dedicated to it. Though we don’t have any official budgetary allocation from the government or salaries for what we’re doing but the Almighty that placed us in this journey will not allow shame to locate us. That’s why you see us waxing stronger day by day. It’s not by our power or might but His divine intervention in our strides. That’s why you always see me praying that “GOD BLESS OUR STRUGGLE”.
