2023: INEC warns against violence, thuggery in Ebira land in Kogi.

The people of Ebira land in Kogi state have been warned against involvement in political thuggery and violence during the 2023 general elections.

Kogi state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Hale Longpet, handed down the warning over the weekend during a courtesy visit on the Ohinoyi of Ebira land, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ado Ibrahim, at his palace in Okene, Kogi State.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, who led his management staff on sensitisation tour of the area, told the Royal Father that the 2023 polls were very crucial and important to the growth and development of the country.

” We are in your palace to solicit for your assistance as a Royal Father, to caution your subjects against political thuggery and violence before, during and after the elections.” Dr Long pet said.

 

He said that no society can develope in a rancorous atmosphere and without peace no meaningful progress will be achieved and therefore urged the people to allow peace to prevail during the electioneering campaigns that have kick started in earnest.

The Resident Commissioner explained that the visit to the Royal Majesty is solely to plead with him to talk to his subjects, to avoid violence and all acts that are inimical to peace, which could negatively impact on a free, fair and credible elections in the area and the state at large.

Responding, the Ohinoyi of Ebira land, Alhaji Dr.Ado Ibrahim, who commended the Resident Electoral Commissioner and his team, said that the visit was very timely in view of the crucial assignment before INEC as an umpire to midwife another political transition for the country.

The Paramount Ruler of Ebira land said that his subjects and the entire residents in the area are peace loving people and would not allow themselves to be used by anyone or group to foment trouble.

While he expressed gratitude to the visitors, the Ohinoyi, commended the Commission for the progress made so far towards the conduct of the 2023 general elections.
