PM Modi’s first visit aims to renew the long-term partnership between India and Nigeria

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu welcomes Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa for a state visit on Sunday, November 17.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s office confirms Modi’s slated five-day state visit to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana, including a two-day stay in Nigeria on November 16 and 17.
This trip marks the fourth occasion an Indian Prime Minister has visited Nigeria, and notably, the first such visit in 17 years.
The relationship between the two nations has been strengthened over the years through regular interactions, including bilateral visits by Heads of State or Government.
Nigeria’s real GDP growth has been robust over the past decade, driven by non-oil sectors, while India has significantly contributed to Nigeria’s economic growth. This visit will provide an opportunity for both countries to further strengthen their bilateral trade and commercial ties.
The primary focus of this visit is the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was formally executed by both nations on November 15, 2024.
