Return of NYSC Corps Members to Toto Signifies Lasting Peace – Dr. Maikaya

Toto Local Government Area in Nasarawa State had not hosted National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) members for over a decade due to security concerns. However, recent developments indicate efforts to create a peaceful and conducive environment for NYSC members to perform their mandatory one-year service there.

This development has attracted commendations from stakeholders, traditional rulers, and community leaders, who attributed it to the collaborative efforts of the state and local governments.

Dr. Musa Muhammed Maikaya, the Ciroman Toto, and CEO of Maikaya Development Foundation, expressed his delight at the presence of corps members in the local government, noting that Toto had been without them due to frequent communal clashes. He assured them of the community’s support, emphasizing that their safety and well-being were paramount. He also advised the corps members to respect the traditions and customs of the Toto people and to integrate themselves into the community, which would help them have a memorable service year.

Maikaya, a former governorship aspirant and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), spoke during multicultural activities organized by the Toto Multicultural Association, which aimed to bring people together despite their differences

“We thank God for this opportunity whereby come together to celebrate irrespective of their differences like any other part of the country. This is one time you will everybody jubilations and dancing together, setting aside their differences”.

However, he said the environment has taken a positive turn, with peaceful coexistence among the people.

Dr. Maikaya applauded the Nasarawa State Government under Governor Abdullahi Sule for setting a template for peace-building initiatives.

He also appreciated the support of LGA Chairman Ahmed Baba Yahaya in achieving peace in the area. He highlighted that previous efforts to organize such cultural activities were often hijacked by unscrupulous elements.

“This celebration marks the demonstration of togetherness, we have been agitating for this moment and now we have achieved it. It is our hope that this gesture will be sustained for the overall development of our local government”.

On his part, he Chairman of Toto Local Government Area, Pharmacist Ahmed Baba Yahaya, stated that in less than six months of his administration, he has initiated projects that positively impact the lives of the people.

He announced plans to host the Deputy Governor for an on-the-spot assessment of his achievements and called for support to succeed, particularly in security, education, and agriculture.
